Talking Factory Oil

I know the factory recommended oil is the 5W-20. But what oil is it, is it dyno oil, synthetic, blended? Does anyone know who manufactures it? Valvoline, Quaker, Mobil? What is the recommended change interval, and what is the sites concensious of what should be used?

Lots of question I know, and thanks.

It is a synthetic blend. And a good one is the Motorcraft 5w20, which can be purchased relatively cheaply at Walmart. Also stay away from Fram filters. The MC filters again can be purchased cheaply at Walmart.
For frequency, follow your owners manual. If you do not have one, you can download one for free from www.motorcraftservice.com in the owners manual section.

I just changed mine a few days ago with Mobil 1 5w-20 and a Mobil 1 filter.

Motorcraft oil is a product of Conoco Phillips. It is a high quality product and are an excellent choice for any FoMoCo vehicle or any other application. Good stuff.

Do you guys really recommend going the 7500 miles recommended in the manual? Has this possed any problems for anyone?

It shouldn't be a problem. However, if that bothers you, change it sooner.

My dealer is telling me to change every 10,000 miles.

At the very least, go by the owners manual. That being said, if you are using a full synthetic, you can go longer. Check the recommendations for the oil. However you should still change the filter at the recommended intervals.

If you have a EcoBoost go sooner. The oil gets fuel diluted bad by 5,000 miles. I change mine at 3-4k for cheap insurance. I went 5k and the oil smelt like pure gasoline. There have been many test and oil analysis showing direct injected motors fuel dilute the oil way sooner than conventional fuel injected motors. My wifes Edge with the NA 3.5L we go to 5-7,500 miles and the oil smells and looks good by then.

I think a lot of older guys (like myself) still think of changing oil every few thousand miles. Those days are long gone with today's technology in motor oil and modern engines, save your money. Another big argument was always what oil brand was best.

I cannot find anywhere in the owners manuel where they tell you how often to change oil. I have a 2012 5.0.

Now I see it and it says 1 year or 10,000 miles.

I change mine every 5000. Easy for me to see when it's time, plus it is almost a quart low by that time. I just don't feel comfortable going much farther than that in the dusty conditions around here.

Not sure which engine you have, as it is not in your signature, but my 13 Ecoboost says to use 5W-30 oil, not 5W-20.
