Starting issue
I Guess I'll start with my truck is a 2009 FX4 with factory battery. Within the past 2 weeks the battery has died on me. I pulled it out and threw it on a battery charger for a few hours the other day, cleaned the terminals and tested it. My guy said it tested fine and was good to go. Well would t you know it, it was dead when the wife went to leave this a.m. I jumped it and went to O'Reilly's and had them run a battery and alternator test. They too say the battery and alternator are good. Each time it's died I've jumped it and its been good for a few days but eventually dies again. Any ideas? I'm hoping its just the battery. Thanks in advance.
Yea I was thinking about that. Also the sync stopped working after it died the first time, started working after the 2nd but then when I removed the battery to fully charge it, it stopped working again. Weird I know.
No I have everything unplugged and no aftermarket parts. I jumped it today and tested the battery again and it's still showing good. Also the Sync is working again. I'll be willing to bet it has something to do with the sync.
I just traded in my 09 for a 13. but the battery lasted only about a year in that 09.
noticed sync started acting weird. when starting it didn't really sound like it was turning over as fast as it should.
looking at the eye on the battery it was red. threw a trickle charger on it after I drove it home from work . and next morning light was flashing on charger that battery was defective.

I have a friend with the same truck only a month newer. and he has his on trickle as he does not drive it much.
he thought the charger he had was bad as his battery was dead 3x in a week. he put a better one on there. like the link above. ( he has 5 of these on all of his tractcors ). and it was green for about a day. then flashed bad battery. also his hydrometer was red.
I also heard there was a bad shipment. back when my battery died in 2010.
a good battery makes all the difference . even more so in the newer vehicles where a lot is happening and more large power draws than you would think . in this 2013 there are two separate direct connections to the battery. one is a 55 and one is a 250a fuse. I believe the 55 is going to the EPAS steering thing.

The 2009's only had a 58Ah, 540CCA battery. Some trickle chargers will not work on really weak battery, they must be get charged with a high rate charger initially for them to work. (Some moderate chargers have the same issue also).
EPAS on the 2013 does not affect the battery, only the alternator. 2009's except the 6.2L had 150A machines, starting in 2011MY I believe they all went to a 220A machine. Don't know where they are at for 2013, but imagine they only get bigger.
Some modules will reset if the voltage drops too low during a crank. Ideally is to not go below 9v during a crank cycle, but obviously on a weak battery, it can fall to say 6v where electronic modules end up resetting and not working right away.
