Tire sensor malfunction

I have a set of 18in tires off of a 2012 fx that I have installed on a 2010 150 xlt 4x4. I have tried to train the tires several times to no avail. Does anyone have an idea as to what I am doing wrong. It does not show a low tire only a malfunction, many thanks in advance.

Did you get it figured out? I was wondering if 2012 sensors will even work with a 2010? Does anybody know?

They should work with the 2010. Just make sure you follow the reset procedure on page 247 of your owners manual TO THE LETTER. If that doesn't work, you may have to get the dealer to do the reset for you.

As i am letting the air out of the left front tire the horn will beep twice. Each time i try the procedure it times out and says to start over. Do you have to completely deflate the tire for this to work?

No you should not have to completely deflate the tire. If following the procedures to the letter, and still getting a malfunction, one thing that needs to be asked, are you sure the new tires have sensors on them? Is it possible the other owner removed them to use on his new tires rather than buying new? If you sure they are there, the best course then would probably to have them checked and reset at the dealer.

It would depend upon how much it is driven. Unless the other vehicle is driven about 20 miles at highway speeds, the malfunction light will not come on.

It could be just one of them malfunctioning. I've got this going on I think, because my light randomly goes on and off and I've reset it several times. I'm getting a set of 2012 raptor wheels in a few weeks with the sensors in them so I hope this will fix my issue. I just wish there was a way it would tell you which tire is loosing pressure.

I talked to the Ford dealer i purchased my truck through and was told since they were not the original tires and rims the problem is not under warranty. I was told me all of the sensors would have to be switched in order for it to work correctly. The trucks are two years apart i can't believe there isn't a simpler solution to this. I guess the light and message is something i will have to get used to.

I am pretty sure, that is BS. Some others here have swapped tires, maybe they have an answer. When I search ebay, they list the same part number for 2010-2012.

If a bad sensor, that is one thing, but the sensor should work.

Edit - Just checked Ford parts, it is the same sensor part number for 2009 and up.

Both sets of tires have a rubber valve stems so this should mean they are the same type.If that is the case shouldn't a programmer do the trick? I called a local tire dealer today and they said they would have to look at the other tires before giving me a price on doing any work.

It has nothing to do with a programmer. The software and hardware are all there. They just need to talk to each other, which it seems they are not doing at this time. Either something is bad or there are no sensors there. And just because it has the valve stem, does not mean the sensor is there. The sensor screws to the valve stem and can be removed.

Sensor malfunction

Just a note of thanks for the help on the sensor problem. I stopped by the dealer and another service person was working that day. He said they would check it out and they fixed it under warranty. I didn't ask too many questions i said thank you and left while i was ahead, again thanks.
