1 month in - 2013 King Ranch 5.0

30 days later and the truck has been everything I expected.

915 miles, 12.6 mpg calculated over 3 fills. 90% plus city driving, much of that less than 10 miles at a whack. Dash is always higher. Lots of hills around here, so am not surprised. When I can get on the open highway, have managed to see 18-19 on the gauge average.

Lots of wet pavement, leaves and hills so the tires spin in full time 2 wheel drive. I tend to drive more in the 4A setting for safety. No spinning in that setting. Have had no reason to go to 4H or 4L yet - no snow. The Pirellis, as commented by many, are not the best in heavy water at high speed. They work good enough to not justify the $1000 for new ones - at least for a year or two.

Interior comfort is great. Seats are comfortable, air works like it should, seat heater is nice - front and back.

Mats - OK, upgrade likely in the near future. They threw in the black rubber F150 front and back. They look fine, but lack the coverage of the WeatherTech that I have my eye on. Bigger issue for me is they are sticky. Trying to haul boxes in the interior and it is more difficult because they won't slide.

LINE-X in the back looks great. Clear Bra is still clear and stuck on:-) Have a BAK VP on BAK order...Should be in in a couple weeks. Have new rails - sorry, don't like the St Louis Rams Adobe, going to go to black, which will also look a lot better with the cover.

No complaints from any of the passengers. friend drives a Caddie, and he was very impressed with the interior - oh, and the fact that I get better gas mileage than his CAR...

Several home improvement store trips, even had to use the man step a couple of times and admit it is convenient...no bar tho, I have some pride.

Also have not used the side step yet, but imagine once I get the lid on, that will change.

My Dodge buddy wanted to know what problems I had to go back in for (he had a couple trips when he got his RAM in the first month). I laughed and said - Built Ford Tough. No squeaks, rattles, nothing to check. It is a great, fun, comfortable, and just enough VAROOM, ride...of course I followed that with a quick knock on wood...

I thought I was going to have to live with crappy gas milage with the 6.2 but it looks like the 5.0 gets around the same in city driving while still being broken in. I have had mine for three weeks and only have 700 miles on mine. Glad you love your truck.

Probably should add it is a 4x4, 157 WB. Little heavier and since I am running in 4A mode a lot vs 2 wheel, it surely isn't helping...
Seems like in similar conditions, there is just a little bit of difference between eco, 5.0 and the big 6.2. Have a friend that has a similar drive to work with a 5.4 and he gets about the same as my 5.0, but is in 2 Wheel all the time.

Wow - good news bad news. So I tried to go granny style with the driving. Drove 100 miles without touching the radiator with my foot. lowest the dash stated was 13.8, ended at 14.4 and said I used 6 gallons. Went to fill up and put in 8 gals for an ugly total of 11.25 mpg. I knew there was no way I was that far off and complained about the calibration. The attendant was not surprised at all, just asked which pump and said he would tell the owner but couldn't do anything for me. Then on the way to work this morning managed to end up with 16.4 mpg on the dash. We'll see....

I'm not sure I'd touch the radiator with your foot anyways... LOL!

Just checking, but are you resetting the MPG meter when you fill up? The 5.0 should net you better MPG than that, especially "granny" driving. I flog the crap outta my EB and 50/50 driving nets me mid 14's.

My Ecoboost averages about 13.5-14 mpg. I mainly drive in the city and we have lots of hills where I live also. I've tried taking it easy, but it seems to get worse mileage due to all of the hills. When I say hills I mean steep hills. I run 5-6 days a week and would't want to walk some of them. My truck currently has 4100 miles on it and the mileage has recently decreased but it could be due to the colder weather and winter grade fuel.

Lousy gas mileage too

I have a new 2012 5.0 in F150 Platinum..gas mileage is disappointing to say the least. Guage says 14.6 combined with 75 % hwy miles per trip. Actual when filling up & doing the math is 13.5 mpg on last go round. Actual gas used never matches the trucks print out ...Best I see on hwy is 17mpg no matter if doing it granny style or averaging 65-70 mph. Afraid to see what all city would be. Toyota's I have owned were always on the money or averaged better then published numbers, be it my trucks or autos. Never saw where a break in period was needed to achieve published numbers. Currently have 3k miles and no difference...

I have the same truck as you do, with the 3.73. and 7k on the odometer
Best i can get out of it is 17.4 at a steady 70 mph. Once i get into town, it's southbound from there.
The 5.4 i had in my 2010, gave me a consistent 19.6 average. Way better then the 5L.

....maybe the 3.73 is the culprit ? I like the ride etc., but just disappointed with the mileage. Figured maybe I could squeak a 19-20 on the hwy ***** footin' it but it's not to be. Oh well...

Yes, might loose a mile off the average compared to the 3.55.
My first and last truck with the 3.73, that's for sure. Otherwise, like you say....great driving truck so far. But the minute it's giving me grief, it's gone.

Yes, am resetting each fill up. Encouraging that the dash continues to show that my truck should be getting better as the break in goes on. I really think it was a bad pump calibration.

And for the record, I was only expecting to be in the 13-14 range at best overall given the truck specs. I still think it is going to be close to that...BUT, there is a reason my car is a V8 too...and I do enjoy using it a little more than some...

Will try to heed Rockpick's advice though and use that pedal adjustment so I don't touch the radiator:-)

Truck rides very nice, seating spacious and comfortable. Hopefully you'll do better with the eco boost in the MPG's then mine does with the 5.0. The miles per gallon is "craptastic" on the guage and "worser" after the actual fill up.

Cool

I was looking at the KR, but decided to go with a Lariat 4x4 supercrew. I have the 6.2, Max Tow and 3:73's. Last year my "Combined" average was 16.3 mpg. Sticker said 13 combined so I feel lucky. I did notice that my mpg improved as I got more mileage on the truck. It leveled off at somewhere's around 7-8,000 miles I think. So I'd give her some time. Overall, the performance, towing capacity, comfort, and gas mileage on these F150's, I Think, are AWESOME! My truck (according to my door sticker), before my add-ons, has a dry weight of about 6,089 lbs.. . I hope you continue to enjoy her because I think these are a treasure......
