Upgrade to the 3.73 gears, worth it for me?

Background: 2010 F-150 King Ranch with the 3.55 LS rear end. I often tow a 6000lb 24ft enclosed trailer.

Lately, Ive been kicking around the idea of putting a 3.73 in the rear end. Is it worth it in my case? Ive seen the gearsets for anywhere from $100-$200. Setting up the rear end is pretty trivial and since its a 2WD, I only need one set.

Thoughts?

Nope, it's not worth it unless you upgrade to at least 4.10's.

With the nice low gear in the 6 speed transmission, you probably don't need to upgrade at all.

Setting up a rear end is FAR from trivial.

You would hardly notice any difference.

I agree. If I were going to take the time to bust into that axle, I would make it a change you could feel. 4.10s should give you a little difference.
I also agree that setting up a gear set it not trivial in my eyes. Its an art form. One that I don't have.

Pshaw, its easy when you've done it a hundred times and have the tools.

Well, that pretty much confirms what I suspected all along. The problem with going to a 4.10 on a stock tire is that it will be great for towing, but murder the gas mileage for road trips when unloaded. Id rather put that money into a tuner, in that case.

Well, you didn't SAY that!

Not really - your cruising rpm's are only going to be about 300 higher. Relatively insignificant.

Step it up to a 4.30 gear and put some bigger meats on to fill out the wheel well :-)

Yeah, so on second thought, the difference is about 300rpm, like you mentioned.

Hmmm, I might put some more thought into that.
