Back in the early days of pollution control there were many problems showing up depending on the make. Often these were rubber problems when higher engine temps [retarded timing] damaged rubber components. I drove an Alfa Romeo and there was a note to change the fuel line. At that time I saw one completely burned up!! I assumed it was from the deteriorated rubber. I bought a fire extinguisher and have carried one ever since!! Never needed one but it's there in case, for me or someone else. That should be in every vehicle!! Also carry something to break a window and cut seat belts.
This may be totally irrelevant but it reminded me of something. I agree about having a fire extinguisher and some means to break a window,

It has always amaze me how much people assume that because they are driving a new vehicle that nothing ever goes wrong with them.

I realize drivers can't possibly be prepared for every thing that can happen.

There was a story a year or so ago on one of the forums about an F150 that had the tire pressure sensor warning light come on. The driver got out, walked around the truck, kicked a couple of tires and got back in and continued to drive. Down the road as it was reported, now I'm paraphrasing here. "The truck took over control, the brakes locked up and what ever it was cause a crash."

Amazing, simply amazing to say the least.

I remember that purported story being a hoax.

One little mechanical hic-cup and you don't feel safe in your truck?? Omg man up. It must be a scary world out there for you if you are this paranoid. Your truck isn't out to get you, its not like we are dealing with Stephen King's Christine....

Get it fixed and cross your fingers. Don't be lame and try to exploit the dealer.

Especially if there's high current in the wire.

No, when I pay $35k or higher for a vehicle, I expect it to not catch on fire and I dont care what the reason is. Plus I didnt say I wouldn't feel safe, I said I wouldnt want it anymore. Its kind of like dating a supermodel thats psycho, pretty to look at but no fun to deal with-pretty soon you don't want her any more. And if catching on fire is a little hic-up to you, then you must be a demolitions expert or something. Its not paranoia, this is principle.

There is so much fail in your comment that I dont even know where to begin.

1. I wasn't even talking to you so I should probably stop here..... but I wont.
The OP(Original Poster) said he did not feel safe in the vehicle anymore.

2. It was NOT a raging fire like he made it out to sound at first. It was a small litlle puff of smoke at best. Some burnt wire and some smoke from said burnt wire.

3. You obviously have no respect for how far cars and vehicles and technology has come these days so i wont sppend much time trying to convince you but this "fire" was as simple as a loose wire that did not get properly tightened down. If you are seriously afraid that the rest of the entire vehicle and all of its parts are nor compromised because of one tiny mistake that any one of us could have made, well then like I said before, I feel bad because it must be a scary world out there for you.

4. These are complicated trucks these days and ya it sucks to pay what they cost and them have mechanical failures but its a trade off that we all have to pay. 50 years ago, Im sure there were a lot less failures, but obviously, trucks where wheels and an engine, no climate controls, heated seats mirrors etc, more you have, more problems that may pop up.

Then you failed by not quoting his original post. Secondly, the as far as vehicles have come these days-Id expect quality control to catch something like a "loose" wire. Obvioualy you didnt read my entire post, it does NOT scare me-it would **** me off and make me question the rest of the vehicle. That simple. Ive been in combat, my Ford is the last thing that scares me.

Well ya, it would **** me off too. But I wouldn't it let make me completely lose faith in my entire truck. I'd get it fixed and move on, not come on here and be asking what kind of demands he should make and how he can exploit his dealer to get free **** just because he feels traumatized about one of his wires getting too hot and made a lil puff of smoke. Ya it sucks it happened, but these trucks are complicated these days and if you are realistic about stuff then you should be able to understand that and move on and enjoy your truck. Its not like it exploded and Ford expects him to drive around in a mushroomed out trucks with all the windows and doors blown off.

When it comes down to it, Ford sells something like half a million trucks a year, there are bound to be a few stories here and there.

**** HAPPENS.
