Shorter antenna?

The antenna on my truck hits my garage door everytime I drive in or out of the garage. It has navigation, so is the gps antenna built-into the antenna on the fender or is it part of the antenna on the roof? Are there any options for shorter antennas from another model?

The gps is a bump right in the middle of the dashboard. The sirius/xm is a mini shark fin on the roof right above the passenger side door. The antenna is a antenna.

This is the info I needed. I was gonna get a stubby cuz the factory antenna is crooked and gets snagged on tree branches often. I was pretty amazed with the reception from this antenna, however, so I have yet to replace it. Now I think I will if the stubby still gets good signal.

I know its not as fancy as the stubby from Craven, but I actually just bought a 13" black "shorty" antenna from PepBoys. Looks more like the stock antenna but shorter and not spiraled. $10. I honestly don't know anything about the reception yet as I really don't listen to the radio hardly at all. Just got tired of the super long stock one.

I *just* bought a Harley Davidson antenna based on the recommendation of another member on the other forum. It was about 20 inches long which was great because it wasn't as short as those stubby ones but also wouldn't clang against the garage every time I drove under a sign. But then it arrived and needed an attachment from AutoZone.

Turns out that AutoZone has the little gender-changer adapter but it's only included with an antenna. So I bought a $10 antenna that was 14" long and am using it instead of the Harley Davidson version. I'll return the HD one for my $45 back since the $10 AZ one doesn't have any reception issues.

I have a bump on the middle of my dash, but it's the light sensor for the interior lighting. The GPS antenna should be built into the shark fin for Sirius/XM.

I just looked at the packaging on mine this morning. Its a Metra 13" Shorty Universal Antenna. The only thing that was interesting was the Ford adapter did not work at all. Used the Chrysler one and worked like a champ.

"Will It Fit" Feeler

I've put a slightly shorter antenna on in the past.....sometimes the using the stock one....removing the ball on the end, cutting and resoldering the ball back on.....

....But I keep it 1.5"-2" or so longer.....to act as the first thing to hit when going in a parking structure....better to learn earlier than later that the truck fits.

I also measure the overall height of the truck....once lift kits and taller tires are added....so I can compare with the helpful "No vehicles over XX inches" signs....

No, not at all. Just a crescent wrench and you unscrew from the base.. On the new one I wrapped a small thin cloth around the base as I screwed it it, just so I wouldn't scratch it.

Late model Fords have the same antenna design as Chryslers. Probably sourced form the same 3rd party.

If you park in downtown parking structures, the antenna will smack the underside of the concrete beams just before you scrape the roof on them.
