Unique question in Eco vs. 5.0

I am looking at getting a new FX4 and am trying to decide between the Eco and 5.0. My main concern is this. I drive a company vehicle 5 days a week, and it is not uncommon for my truck to sit unstarted for 2-3 weeks at a time. With my previous Silverado 5.3 and F150 4.6, this caused issued with clogged injectors, etc. I really want an Eco, but how does it respond to long periods of not being driven compared to a 5.0? Will this just be an issue I have to deal with regardless of what motor I get?

Thanks guys!

I doubt it would matter which ones sits. My Eco sat all last winter with a battery tender hooked up to it.

My main concern with the Eco was the turbo. I know nothing about how they work in the Eco and wasn't sure if the motor sitting for long periods was hard on the turbos?

I doubt it would cause any sludge or anything as long as you drive it once a week or so and keep it maintained.

I don't think it matters which engine you get. Sitting for long periods will probably affect them both the same way. You could probably add some Sta-Bil to the gas which should help keep the injectors from getting gummed up.

I started putting sea-foam in my silverado which has seemed to help. Unfortunately it has been in 2 times now for top end/injector cleaning and it only has 60k miles on it. I was told by the SM it's because it hardly gets drove, and when I do, it isn't many highway miles. Maybe fords don't have this problem like the silverados? My f150 4.6 didn't like to sit, but I never had to take it in for service to get it running good either, I just had to put some miles on it.

Sitting shouldn't hurt the turbos. I only put about 1000 miles on my Grand National a year.
Whichever one you choose, I would invest in a battery tender if it's going to sit for weeks at a time.

It's not going to effect the turbos. I've had several turbo cars before this truck. I've had my cars/trucks sit in long term parking at airports for years. There isn't going to be a problem. Get either motor and you should be happy.

Every time I get my truck serviced I add a can of injector cleaner. A bit of prevention.

I have had my 2011 Ecoboost for a year now and usually only drive it on the weekends. I have not had a single problem with it since i bought it. I have a little beater car i drive to work everyday that i can careless what happens to just as long as it gets me to and from work. It gets better gas mileage than my truck and its just nice to know I'm keeping the miles off the truck while I'm still paying for it and that its home in the garage safe and sound and CLEAN!!

It sounds like I might end up with an Eco after all...

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the four current engines offered. Drive them and see what you like. I bought the 5.0 and love it, and if in the market for another truck, would choose it again.

as stated before put a fuel additive in the tank and you can let it set for a year and not worry! it wont bother the turbos to set. but you must use a good additive not just what the minimum wage pimple faced kid at auto zone said worked for him. sea foam seems to be OK but i like Sta-Bil for my stuff!

i wouldn't worry. look how long some trucks sit on the lot with out going any where. like it's been said i would recommend sta-bil as well if its going to sit any longer than a month. i use it in all my toys and have never had a carb/injector problem.

Seafoam is not a stabilizer.
