With F-150 Limited, Ford Raises the Ceiling, Again, on Premium Pickups; Raptor Gets..

New York Times:

It may seem that Ford is oversaturating the high end of its best-selling truck line with so many models commanding premium, if not always Platinum, cash outlays from their buyers. But Mr. Levine said in a telephone interview that the brand saw no reason to stop testing the market.

“We have not reached the ceiling yet,” he said. “In 2009, when we first introduced the Platinum model, our expectation was that it would account for 3 percent of the model mix for F-150. It’s been a constant 6 percent,” he said.

“When you think about these buyers, if they’re towing a $150,000 trailer, a $60,000 truck is not the most expensive thing they’re using.”

The Limited is differentiated from the Platinum and other premium F-150 models almost entirely through appearance. It sits on 22-inch polished aluminum wheels, and various exterior elements like the mirror caps and bumpers match the body’s metallic red, white or black paint. The interior is where the Limited is expected to win over what Mr. Levine described as the “style-conscious” pickup truck buyer.

“Think of that Bentley or Mercedes red leather. That’s the kind of leather we want people to think of when they see the interior,” Mr. Levine said. Seating surfaces are of a hue that Bentley might describe as Hotspur, with black side accents. The center stack is finished in piano black, and the full gamut of Sync and MyFord Touch infotainment features are standard equipment.

The 2013 SVT Raptor becomes the first vehicle available with factory beadlock-compatible alloy wheels, which also happen to be the world’s first wheels with conventional and beadlock-mounting abilities.

Interesting. Most people I see pulling 150k trailer usually have a Diesel Dually.

Anyhow: Wonder if the new raptor bends in the middle like the older models?

Wow I'm glad I picked up my 2011 Limited. That interior is... loud!

I want those 2013 headlights!!! Not feeling the limited interior! GAWD I want a Raptor. Also, im sorry Platinum owners but I just dont get it. For almost the same pricepoint you could have had a Raptor! I know, not everyone wants a Raptor but if you compare what you are getting...

Not everyone wants a desert racing pickup marketed to the Travis Pastrana "flat bills". You get horrendous fuel economy and less towing/cargo capacity with questions regarding longevity of the race tuned suspension for doing any serious heavy lifting.

All that being said......I would take a Raptor in a heartbeat!

that is a step backwards by using just the regular F150 front bumper on that Limited. Also, like I mentioned in the previous spy picture thread, those 22" rims are nothing new either, they have been in the Ford Accessory catalog for several years now.

A Raptor is useless for hauling or towing. Thats good enough for me.

Ford's accessory catalog doesn't sell wheels for F-150 and hasn't for some time now. The wheels look 10's better whether they are nothing new or not. The new grille looks 10's better too.

The old bumper has large grilles that would effect cooling on Ecoboost. Also, the new Limited will have tow hooks, unlike the 2011.

^they used to have them listed under the F150 section until they redid that entire website. Tasca still has them in their online Ford accessory catalog, here they are here listed back in 2008, along with two other 22" rim styles that Ford has featured that past few years on the new 09-up model.

good point about the bumper opening, I forgot that it has that Ecoboost now.

That's very loud, but I really like that too.

I still wish for more than just an "appearance package" or badge job. At least the 2011 Limited had the more exclusive 6.2 motor.

Ford, if you're listening, can we please have an "Unlimited" version like this?

The fact that it's only offered with the ecoboost makes me feel pretty good about owning one. Looks like Ford is pretty confident in the engine.

Comments from labnerd and others make me nervous sometimes.

For those of us in the FX4 crowd, I like the less chrome look but the price and the interior keeps me scratching my head, seems a bit pretentious to me...the interior. No choice in changing that eh?..maybe something "toned" down a bit..
