Water leaks continue

2010 F-150 XL, 23,800 miles

Last week, had the third brake light sealed. Thought the leaks were fixed until Sunday... we are having some really good rain here in central Florida and there is water along the back edge of my headliner with drips at the rear corner (passenger side)... the headliner is getting ruined. Drove for about 1 1/2 hours before the leaks reappeared.

Got up this am to go to work, and while I see no obvious drips, the headliner is wet along the back edge. No water though from the "oh crap" handle this time... I guess that's a good thing.

I would guess if my rear window was leaking, I'd see drips down the glass right?

What about the body roof area, anyone know of leaks along the rear seam? There appears to be a seam at the rear end of the roof with some black molding strip and what looks like a rivet.

I'm really angry... spent years wanting a newer truck... finally got to where I could afford one... spent months looking until I found this only to have this crap happen within two weeks of owning the truck.

Oh well, a call into Ford this am and the body shop that did the work ;ast week is all I can do for now...

Good luck dude...I had my 2010 in the shop maybe 5 or 6 times before they finally got it. They tried re-sealing the rear glass, changed the rear glass, third brake light kit, sattelite antenna re-seal, the dealer finally took the truck to a glass company who found a place where there was a missing rivet or something that was letting water flow freely into the truck.

It was a nightmare. Keep after it and you'll get them to find it.

Water intrusion problems with Ford vehicles are well documented.

My 1978 E-150 bought new for $6,000, leaked like a shower head from the day I owned it, until I had to put her down cuz of cancer (terrible terrible rust). Numerous trips to the dealer and everytime I got it back, it seemed to leak worse than before.

My '10 XLT had the high brake light leak repaired along with a new headliner. While it was there, they also re-sealed the Sirius antenna (which I wish it didn't have, any roof penetration is asking for trouble)

I guess 'free flowing liquid' is something the FoMoCo's engineering dept. just can't seem to figure out.

I haven't owned a Ford since I put down 'Ole Blue' cause I got so pi$$ed off of climbing into a vehicle that smelled like a locker room all the time.

I bought my '10 thinking they'd surely have the water intrusion problems remedied by now, and boy wuz I mistaken!!!

None of the other vehicles I bought leaked. None. And I've owned quite a few.

Good luck...........

2010 XLT supercrew with a leaky roof issue

I have to unfortunately agree with you all. My truck just sprung a noticiable leak that a rear seat passenger made me aware of yesterday in a rain storm. Soggy headliner and all. The dealer has got the truck now. No warranty coverage even with the Premium ESP in place. The dealer claims the 3rd brake/cargo light is the culprit. They are fixing it now and cleaning up the headliner to the tune of $250. OUCH. I hope they got it right the first time...but after reading other's "similar" issues...I am a little suspicious that it will be fixed correctly. I'll keep the forum posted to the outcome. We should start a new group; "The Soggy Headliner Boys" has got a good ring to it. What do you think?

I had the same issue with my 07 Sport Trac and the 3rd brake/cargo light. I simply got up in the bed, removed the cover, cleaned it up, resealed with silicone and replaced it. Never leaked again. The head liner eventually dried out and all was good in the world again.

Now I have a 2011 F150 and so far... no issues. If it does creep up, I'll do the same to fix it.

really was an easy fix.

Good luck!

leaks

F150's are famous for 3rd brake light on top of cab water leak. A new light with will ruin a $100 bill. Remove 3rd brake light on the rear part of your cab. Dry out the area under the light with hair dryer or heat gun on low setting. Apply a goodly amout a of quality sealant on top of old seal in the light itself. Make sure everything is good and dry before trying to reseal. My f150 needs the same treatment, also my door weather stripping needs same. Good luck.

The last three Fords I've owned have all had water leaks. Currently have a Ford Escape company car with a leaking back window. Previously had a Fusion and a Lightning with leaks....

I am out $250 but the dealer did fix my 3rd brake light leak well enough for now. The headliner cleaned up well. I wrote Ford warranty about the leak and told them I wanted to be reimbursed for the dealership work and parts. So far all I have heard is crickets. For what it is worth to everyone else on the forum, since this part IS NOT COVERED under warranty, You are better off either sealing with silcon or replacing the gasket yourself. It is a gasket issue. The OEM gasket on the part is just too thin and when mounted, it does not compress enough to make a good water seal. I wonder how that part ever got through Ford's proving ground and qualification testing and passed without leaking.

Has any one tried to seal thier brakelights with "The Right Stuff"? Works really well for sealing intake manifolds.

Water intrusion is NOT covered under 'Extended Warranties' that are purchased, however the original warranty (3 yr/36,000 miles) does cover the repair.

Both my high brake light and headliner WERE replaced under the original warranty.

Sirius antenna pod was resealed under the original warranty, too, at the same time when my other leaks were repaired.

Yeah previous owner told me he had mine fixed under warrenty as well... they screwed up the headliner so it wont stay up against the rear of the sunroof and he never took that to have it re fixed but the truck doesn't leak...
