muffler suggestions?

I have the 5.0 Crew Cab and just took mine into a muffler shop last week and had them swap the muffler and add tips ($350 out the door). I did a Magnaflow as that seemed to be what most F-150 owners were doing for muffler swaps (it was part number 12198). I wanted some more bark to my exhaust, but not to the point where I was making enemies with my neighbors. I told the shop what I was looking for in volume as I wanted that "sweet spot". They did the install (running both tips out the back) and said with the resonator left in, they could hardly hear the muffler over the engine revving. 10 minutes later after taking the resonator out... my truck got it's voice. It is deep and aggressive, and sounds great! The first day with it, I thought it was a tad louder than I wanted, but I think it was just cause I was so used to the truck being quiet. I love it though and would do it again in a heartbeat. My mileage has gone down tremendously since doing it, ha ha!!! Here are 2 other videos of the same setup (the tone and everything sounds the same on mine). Keep us posted with what you do.

I dont want to hear a drone in the cab though, I just want a nice rumble, nothing loud and nothing annoying. Nothing that will wake my family up when I fire up the truck at 5am...
I realize this is a tuff feat since I am not hearing all the different mufflers, I guess I will just have to try a Magna Flow...
What is the part # for the muffler that is recommended? I also dont want to cut up my stock exhaust to much if I dont have to...

Yeah, it's hard without hearing them in person. From what you describe that you want, this muffler is probably a little too much for you. Without checking, I think this (12198 magnaflow) is a 14 inch muffler. You might want to go with one of their 18 or 24 inch larger mufflers to give you a little bit of a quieter sound.

I have a 2009 5.4 crew 4x4 5.5 box and just a few weeks ago put on magnaflows largest muffler (that I know of) 5x11x22, part number 12589. It was about $70 plus I put a nice magnaflow (3" slash cut) tip on $30 and muffler shop charged $60 for install (cdn prices). I kept as much of the stock piping as possible and had it welded. Very happy, nice and mellow. I wanted only a slight improvement in tone over stock with minimal drone. I feel I've achieved this with this setup. There IS some drone at the 60 mph mark all the way to about 70ish, but it's very minimal. My 3 yr old loves it and the wife doesn't really notice (yet), so my goals were met (so far)
My friend put on a 4x9x18 magnaflow with the same tip on his 11 GMC scab 5.3 and it is slightly louder than mine. He says there is a bit of drone on the hwy but I've only been for a ride in the city so far so I cannot give a direct comparison for hwy drone.
There were 4 of us at work that did a bulk order and they gave us a 35% discount. Another guy has same setup as me but 6.5 bed and is in love with the magnaflow. The 4th guy has a crew like mine but 4.6 and it rocks too!
I'm sure the 5.0 will sound sweet with a magnaflow. From what I've read here the borla will keep it's tone all the way to redline whereas the magnaflow dies out around 4k which is ok by me.

I removed the resonator on my 5.0 and replaced it with a straight pipe Ford used for the 09+ 5.4. It's a direct fit and may be a good match for what you're after. Absolutely no drone climbing hills or cruising on the highway. If you're looking for something slightly louder than stock you might want to try it.
All the info was found on another forum, here's the part numbers:
9L3Z-5A212-A - 126" wb with ex. pipe extension (chrome tip)
9L3Z-5A212-B - 133" wb without ex. pipe extension
9L3Z-5A212-C - 145" wb without ex. pipe extension
9L3Z-5A212-D - 157" wb with ex. pipe extension
9L3Z-5A212-E - 163" wb without ex. pipe extension
9L3Z-5A212-F - 145" wb with ex. pipe extension
9L3Z-5A212-G - 157" wb without ex. pipe extension
The pipe extension is for trucks with the chrome tip, those trucks had a weight on the pipe to offset weight and prevent vibration. Here's a pic of the 145" without pipe:

Hey Scorpio,
After locating the other thread in which you posted videos I believe I know which pipe I need. I have an FX2 and it has the chrome tip with the 5.0 Screw. Looks like it'll be part#9L3Z-5A212-F. Truck sounds good with out the resonator. Any mileage difference?
@sos1inmesa
Why did your MPG goes down? Was it cause you were dropping the hammer more than usual?
