adding power folding mirrors to a platinum?
my buddy has a 2011 f150 platinum. the truck had trailer tow mirrors factory. he bought power folding mirrors becuase he likes the look of them better than the trailer tow style. they bolt up fine but they wont fold. ford only list's 2 different mirror switches. he tried them both, neither will work. any ideas? anyone done this yet?
very quick search netted this
I removed my tow mirrors on my 2010 fx4 and installed the power folds. Not all the wires needed were present in the doors or the switch. They can be installed without the relay and without getting the truck flashed. The way mine are installed ,they can be folded and unfolded without the key on.2 wires have to be run between the mirrors from the drivers side to the passenger side. 1 wire from terminal 7 on one (passenger)mirror to terminal 7 on the other(driver)mirror, and 1 wire from terminal 16 on one (passenger)mirror to terminal 16 on the other(driver)mirror. On my mirror switch plug there was no wire on the #4 terminal, a wire needs to be run from the switch plug #4 terminal (or wire if present)to the #16 wire on the drivers side mirror. You will also need to run a wire from the #7 wire on the drivers side mirror to the # 6 terminal on the mirror switch. That should get the job done. ( There were no wires on the mirror plugs on either door at the #7 or the # 16 position, I jamed a wire in the plug from behind so that the pin on the mirror connector would make contact, you can silicone them or superglue them in place). ( if you dont have these wires present then you will have to drill a hole in each of the door jambs to run the wires from one side to the other)
I am currently in the process of adding power fold to my 2010 lariat. I encountered this problem also and have some information from my dealer. The first thing you need to check and see is if you have those wires(pin 7 and 16) in the connector to the mirror. If those wires are in you pickup then we can continue, if not follow the post right above mine to wire them. I was told by the dealer there is a different program for the power seats to include the power mirrors which you would half to go to dealer to find out. For mine i have to order this and it will be installed tomorrow. I will get back to you guys tomorrow with more details and if mine work i can get more info on the install.
gbollingberg, any luck yet adding the power fold mirrors? please let me know what u find out!!

No news yet. My dealer still couldn't figure it out. They are doing some more research today by calling with headquarters as they claimed. So far they have been working on getting them working for like 5 shop hours with no luck yet. Thankfully they are not charging me because they are interested in knowing how to make this work as much as i am! I hope to be hearing back from them this week on what we can do. I will keep you updated.
im thinking the drivers seat module would need to be reprogrammed with as built data from a vin# that all the same options plus power folding mirrors. because i guess the drivers seat module controls the mirror memory options and power fold option. still working on it tho.
I just bought a 2009 Larriet ,bought aftermarket Power folding mirrors. My switch and mirrors have all the wires in the harness already. But they won't fold. Did you guys ever figure out what to do? Could really use some help here!
I just bought my 2012 F150 Lariat, and the drivers mirror was replaced with a power fold, so I thought the truck HAD power fold... apparently not
I would have to replace the switch, and the passenger mirror too, but is it set up internally to have the power fold if i was to replace the switch? or like it stated above, would i have to rewire it (that isn't a big deal to do, just curious)
