2 Things I can't stand

Well it took me a week to buy the first mod for my truck after telling myself I wasn't doing anything to it. At least it's a small one. There's 2 things I can't stand to look at on cars/trucks. 1 is no tint luckily my new truck came with it. 2 is the damn mile long factory antenna they put on it. So I bought a 13" black shorty antenna and it looks so much better. Of course pic below.

Funny...in the pic, I can't tell where the antenna stops. :)

Really? Because there are two things I hate-People who are intolerant of other peoples cultures; and the DUTCH!

Not sure why anyone would buy a shorter antena. Surely you must own a hacksaw and a file...

On my past trucks I've always cut the stock antenna down to about an inch taller than the cab.....
That way when I go into a parking garage or overhang I can easily tell if my truck is too tall cause the antenna will hit first.
If the antenna hits, then I just back up!

if you got time to worry about an attenna on a truck, then my hat is off to you

If you got time to knock some random guy online, for a truck mod, then you are even less busy than he. Come on nards444, 600 posts in 4 months....don't pretend you have no free time.

I will be one that doesn't try to boost my non existent ego by putting someone's idea down, and agree that the longer antenna is a dislike of mine. Not for asthetic reasons, but because everytime I back into my garage, the antenna drags on the vinyl garage door weather seal, and is tearing it up. Thanks for the topic OP, you reminded me to chop mine off.

Pretty sure you're not parking yours in a garage. Couple days of the antenna dragging across the door, the opening, etc gets aggravating.

I agree! I got me a shorty as soon as I got my truck.

Hope you got a lift in that there garage! In which case you should trim the antenna down to 1" above the cab so you know right before you hit the ceiling. :D

There was even a post floating around here not too long ago (a few years) where someone did a 'how-to' on shortening your antenna.

Basically, pop the 'ball' off of the end of the antenna using a wire stripper (pay close attention to where it goes when you pop it off). Dremel/hacksaw off to suit. Using some kind of epoxy (or bubble gum), reattach ball.

Did it on my 2005 and have had ZERO problems as a result.

Patman Apr 13, 2012 03:28 PM

yup and depending on how far down you cut on the antenna, you may need to taper the end slightly to get the ball to push back on
