Can I do better?
Can I do better?
Looking to purchase my first new truck, so I'm pretty new to the dealer haggling/negotiating process
I think I've done pretty well though. I couldn't find a truck that I liked in the area, and the closest for dealer trade is 500 miles away. So the dealer will order straight from ford for me.
2012 SuperCrew FX4, Ecoboost, Luxury Package, Max tow, bed liner, and 6" running boards.
MSRP: $46020
Invoice: 42062
3% hold back: 1380
$4250 in rebates ($2000 customer cash, $500 bonus cash, $1000 Credit Cash, $750 Ford Coupon)
$42062
- 1380
- 4250
= 36432
Dealer quoted me a price of $36270 + 195 in fees.
There's no way they're only making $33 on this, is there? I know the get extra from ford for every vehicle sold, but since I wouldn't take delivery for a while that would be pretty hard to factor in, correct?
I do have a trade, but this was drawn up before I mentioned that. And I'm going to shop it around a bit before making a final decision, or try selling it private sale before delivery.
Is there any way I can do better than this, without settling for a truck I don't want at 7pm on the last day of the month? Is there a manufacturer to dealer rebate I don't know about?
Thanks guys.

Looks like your doing pretty good. I have always said if possible try and shop two dealers for the same vehicle, you never know. Take what you hear on as a grain of salt, a lot of good information but sale price, mpg, etc is like big fish tales on here everybody turns a 1lb blue gill into a 25lb walleye in their stories at times here.
As far as your trade. I have been trading lately its easier and no hassle. But I have one time put the truck up for sale like a week before delivery if it sold before I went it sold, if not I brought it to trade in. Depending on what you have it might be hard to sell, if you have something thats worth 10k or less might be easier to sell privately and make more money. But if you have something closer to 20 or more it can be a hard sale.

Here is the deal I got on my 2012 Lariat, SuperCrew, 4x4, 6.5 Bed, EB, HD Payload. It was a factory order.
$47,610.00 MSRP
$43,581.00 Invoice
$42,584.00 Negotiated Price
$851.68 State Sales Tax
$212.92 County Sales Tax
$289.00 Doc/admin fees
$16.50 Title app
$43,954.10 Total Price
-$3,500.00 Ford Rebates and Incentives
$40,454.10 OTD Price
The best advice I can give is to get at LEAST 5 dealers (I had 8!) competing for your business. Spec out the exact truck you want on the ford website. Print the spec sheet and email it to them for a price quote. Keep an excell spreadsheet with the dealership name, salesperson, contact info, and prices. Email the lowest price you get back to all the other dealers and ask them to beat that price. Repeat. Repeat, Repeat. The last one standing, gets your business...

Nice dealing
Looks really good. Just be wary on a couple points as I bet the sales guys are thinking they will give you a deal on the truck but make up for it in other ways...
1. Dont buy an extended warranty without checking prices (if you want one). Do a google search for Ford OEM factory warranties for prices, should be under $1k easily.
2. Low ball you on the trade.
3. Take the cash rebates even versus the 0% if offered. If there is a rebate for financing through Ford take that as well, you can always immediately refi through a local credit union. The 3 months wait period is BS but dont tell them that.
4. Start adding dealer and doc fees, dont ever pay those.

Having a new enough truck still, he could save a decent amount on taxes + the $1k you get for trade in can come close.
I got my asking price (if i was to sell it on my own) on my trade in after the $1k trade assistance and $1k i saved in taxes.
That is a common misconception. Call your DOR. They'll tell you that you can deduct the price of a private sale the EXACT same way a trade-in is deducted. You just have to provide a bill of sale.
Don't think that is the case in Texas.

When I bought my 2011, I had a high mileage but clean 2005 XLT. One dealer offered me $7000 on trade. I never asked the other dealers, just dealt for a cash price. I sold it on craigslist to the first person that looked at it for $10,000.

Well even here in Missouri if you look on the DOR website it says NOTHING about private sale. I contacted them because my boss told me be sure to get the deduction with the bill of sale. Didn't believe him and emailed the DOR and they confirmed that he was correct. We sold my old 2002 Lexus GS430 ($15k) and my wife's 2005 VW Beetle ($8.5k) and saved ~ $1800 in sales tax (using straight private sales) when we bought my wife's 2012 Lexus RX350. The dealer offered me $10k for my GS430.
I can't really say don't trade in though because I just traded in my 2002 F150 and basically gave it to them for the regular trade-in value because I was being lazy. I could have probably sold it for $8500 easy.
