I need a new windshield

2 large rocks from a dump truck hit my windshield last week. The windshield has a nice set of cracks in it, ugg.

I happen to like the factory windshield with it's "F-150" embossed logo in the upper center. Safelite does not carry the same windshield. And, my last Safelite windshield was less than perfect optically.

What's the chance a dealer can do a good job replacing the windshield with a new factory one?

Suggestions please!

Installing a windshield isn't hard so if they screw it up they should be considering a different career path.

IIRC it was $200 for us to get the windshield w/out the f150 in it and $300 for the one with the F-150 logo in it. $100 wasn't worth a logo.

Also, a while back i was reading there are huge quality differences between windshields even from the same manufacturer.

The foam that separates the windshield from the dash was loose, and coming into the truck. In order to repair the foam, the dealer had to remove the w/s in my truck, and replace it with a new one. It was cracked before they started...... There is a Tsb10-22-3 for it. Check the bottom edge of the w/s from the inside of your truck. Pay close attention to that foam strip, and check it for flaws.

Ask your insurance company for a referral to a glass place that DOES have the OEM windshield. Safelite isn't the only glass company on the planet.

when I had to have the one on my truck replaced I was given the option of a windshield w/the F150 logo or w/o. I think it was close to $100 for the Logo as well. I went with the one that was logo free. It still had that "textured" area where the logo would be, it's just solid instead of having the logo in the middle. Looked just fine IMO. Also, this was through a local shop here, and they had it in stock. It cant be that hard to get these things if a place called Badger Glass in **** nowhere Alaska has them. I would try a different company....

The windshield I got from Safelite was $250 (it had the F-150 logo), the one without was $150. The reason I went for the more expensive glass was the fact that this truck is my first really nice one I've had, so I wanted the stock equipment replaced. Lol still wasn't right, the one they put in has a blue UV strip across the top, my original windshield had the black design all the way across the top.

I'll be replacing that one soon, as it now has three cracks that will run in the 100+ degree MS weather....

I will tell you right now, there is no reason to take it to the dealer. They do not do glass installs. What they do is call a company like Safelite and have them do the replacement. Just find a glass company that can get the windshield you want and have them do it. Also check your insurance. It could be a free install, I know it is for me.

Hopefully safelite is better in your area.... They did $1200 worth of damage to my buddies Hummer and then did about $300 worth of damage to another buddie's car. In my 2010 I had to replace the windshield and had a local glass shop do the work and it was like $100 with my insurance and then a month later it got a chip and they fixed it for free and did a great job. I'd look for a reputable shop first and check your policy too.

I've been with State Farm for almost 15 years, and the deductible is $500....grrrr. That's another reason I got the windshield I wanted...if I'm paying for it all, I'm getting what I want.

I have State Farm and using their referral I had my windshield replaced in my driveway and nothing out of pocket. I also have $500 deductable.

Call them first.

I have a local independent glass outfit do mine. They use Guardian which is made in the USA. After talking to them about options, I went with the Non-F150 labeled glass. It still has the upper tinting and black out treatment, but again it is the $100 less. This USA glass is reported to be harder and withstands rock chips better than the typical Chinese made glass. It is also smoother so you don't get as much light refraction. For my 2008, I was $245 out of pocket to have them replace the glass. They also have contracts to do a lot of the local law enforcement vehicles since they tend to crash them and want the added protection that the good glass gives them. These installers also visit the local body shops to see how their installs, and the glass, is holding up in the case of a collision or roll-over. Afterall, the glass isn't just there to look through, it helps keep you in the vehicle, and foreign objects out in the case of an accident.
