When I navigate to Trip A in dash messages, I get a rectangular dialog box with nothing in it. On the left side of the box, there is a smzll circle with two vertical hash marks. Looked at the owner's guide and saw nothing about this screen. What am I missing??? Trip B works normally.

 

It is paused. You can pause it so it stays where it is and your current driving doesn't affect it at all. Just hit the OK button and it will un-pause it!
