Dont know what your friend is doing. I get 10mpg towing 9500lbs

 

lmao at every thread that mentions the EB turning into a 'what's the big deal about this engine' thread...

 

 

Well I'm Only going on what I see with my friend's eb he gets between 10 & 11 mpg driving around city and when he pulls his 10,000 lb trailer it will over heat and get only 9mpg on 87 octane and only gets 17 mpg highway far cry from ford's 23mpg. My 5.4 will pull on any fuel and not over heat and get 12mpg and 13 to 14 mpg not pulling. so what I'm saying my friend's truck has not lived up to the " hype" of the eco boost engine must of got a monday engine!! now give me back my 3 iq points

 

well Ford published mpg on the EB is only 22 not 23. And even at 22mpg your talking a 2wd with probably 3.55s or 3.31 gearing. So its all relative. And towing a 10k load and not premium is not smart to begin with. And to only get 9-10mpg towing a 10k load is about standard dont matter what your tow vehicle. but 10-11 seems really bad. I would guess its your friends habits and not the truck.

 

Ford recommends premium when towing with a EB.

 

Thats a shock to me --- when i bought mine a week ago Eb was maybe 10-15% of what was on the lots in my area, with the bulk of them being 3.7 v-6's and 5.0's - maybe they are just selling the EB's much faster

(couldnt tell ya what the EB price was on the sticker -- not gonna look either-- deal is done and i cant do anything about it now )

 

from the two dealers I spoke of they couldnt keep them on the lots. When they get new ones they sell or the new ones are special orders.

 

It all depends on location. I spend a lot of time in some smaller Texas towns that are primarily farm and ranch communities. The Ford dealers in these towns average about 2 EBs to 10 5.0s. In Fort Wort, they are split about even.
