Buying Advice 2012 lariat 4x4

I am in the market for a new truck to replace my 2004 Lariat 4x4. Down to 2 choices, Ram 1500 laramie and F-150 Lariat both 4x4 and super crew.
After owning the 04 and having problems with the spark plugs and broken suspension coils and new front shocks, I though I would not even consider purchasing another Ford but considering whats out there I am back to between Ford and Ram.

Are there any issues with the new Ford and what engine is recommended (5.0 vs Eco-boost)? Limited slip vs electronic locking axle? I am looking at my 04 window sticker and don't really see much difference in 8 years, what has been improved or added?
Thanks!

6-speed tranny I believe is still the biggest improvement since the 08MY. Other than that, electric steering (EPAS) and electric cooling fans.

Engine choice and rear axle type are of personal preference and usage. If you plan to tow heavy loads or like performance, get the ecoboost. I wouldn't get it for fuel mileage. My choice would be the 5.0L. I like the limited slip (great for everday driving) and electronic locking (great for off roading or similar situations).

There is heated/cooled seats and Sync which are very nice creature comforts, manual gear selection. Nav display is great for some but I don't like it.

Your best bet is to drive each one and pick one you like. There are many styles of the F150 to choose from, spend time with each and decide what is best for you and then drive it.

Hey there I just traded in my 04 fx4 for a 2012 ecoboost I too had the spark plug issue. I would say go for the f150 again weather it be the 5.0 or the ecoboost heck maybe even a 6.2 if your gonna get the lariat anyway? I love my ecoboost good mileage and great power huge difference from the 5.4 with a 4 speed. I am very satisfied with the 2012! Hope this helps.

Storm search pretty much nailed it. I came from an 07 F150 and also considered the ram but with the combination of comfort and power Ford won hands down. The current generation is head and shoulders above your 04 as far as refinement and performance go.

I havent had any issues with mine. I got the EB. Any manufacture is going to have issues and some will get that lemmon, buddy has a dodge and has had the whole front end replaced in the first year. As far as axles and dif thats personal preference and towing. If you want a better tow package and need it get the EB, if towing isnt as important get the 5.0. The statement of not getting the EB if your looking for MPG is not accurate. Is the EB not getting what ford claims yes and no, but at its worse is on par with the 5.0 if not better.

Thanks guys! Great information.
I think I will go with the Ford and drive the 5.0 as well before deciding vs eb.
Looks like the limited slip will be the option for me since I am not a big off roader.
