2012 keypad question

On my old 2004 I could lock the keys in the truck while it was running, to keep the heater running while I stepped out for a second. I would hit the lock button, the doors would lock, then the driver's door would unlock, I would then have to push it down manually. My new truck, 2012 lariat, doesn't want to do that? I lock the doors, but all locks pop out when I try to manually lock things up, with the engine running. Is there a setting I'm missing? Any help.

I think if you close the doors and then hit the 7/8 9/0 buttons at the same time, it will lock, even if its running.

Your truck has a feature that wont lock your doors with the key in the ignition. I dont know if you could by-pass it.

but how would this be...... when one is in the drivers seat with the key in doors could lock..... they are lock when your driving and when you put it in park..... unless one has the setting set to the doors unlock automatically when the truck goes into park

If the door is already closed, truck running or off with just key in ignition, you can lock the door. If it is open and you lock the door, it will unlock immediately. So with that, you can lock it from the outside, door closed, if you have your extra key fob, or you hit 7/8 9/0 if you have a keypad. This works on the 09 anyway.

It will stay locked when you push 7/8-9/0 at the same time.

Why dont you add the factory remote start, its plug and play and not a lot of money.

That would be a safety issue if true. I should be able to determine when the doors unlock!

If you want to lock the door while the truck is running, all you need do is lock the door with the key fob before you get out and the door will stay locked. At least that's how it works on my 2010 Screw.

Well the point I think is leaving it running. I to have done this, and really did it when I had a diesel. Either way dont get the factory one, you still have to have the dealer turn it on even if you install it yourself. I beleive the system is 200 bucks plus install. Get a after market remote start they go a lot farther

The only reason I suggest factory is its plug, program and play. No cut wires. On my aftermarket alarms you can keep the truck running when you get to your location and take the key out.Im Just always thinking about saftey and security.

Thats why you can turn this feature off, some people dont like there doors unlocking when you put your truck in park. I personally like them unlocking when I put the truck in park. Just much faster and easier for the kids to jump out.
