removing center console in '11 FX2?

Greetings,

I have a 2011 FX2 crew cab with SYNC/Sony audio (no NAV). I am about to completely replace the factory SYNC system with an Alpine system, including Alpine amps for the front and rear door speakers.

My understanding is on trucks with the OEM Sony audio option, the amplifiers for the front and rear door speakers are in the center console. Also, that is where the factory wiring to the door speakers originates (which I will be using with the Alpine PDX-F4 4X100W amp I am installing).

Tomorrow morning I need to pull the center console to access the OEM Sony amps and speaker wiring and remove the factory amps.

I wanted to check in advance to see if there is any trick to removing the center console, at least sufficiently to access the amplifiers and speaker wiring. If it's anything like my last truck (a 2004 XLT), there are bolts in the bottom of the console that hold it to the truck floor and possibly some trim work that needs to be popped off.

Thanks for any information!

Okay, follow-up for anybody that is interested.

On a 2011 F150 FX2, with SYNC, no NAV and Sony "premium" audio, the Ford OEM Sony amp for the door speakers is located under the center console. You need to access that amp if you want to use the factory speaker wiring to the door speakers.

To pull the center console, remove the radio bezel then the two bolts under it at that bottom which hold the center console.

Then pop off the trim plates on the sides of the console at the front and remove the two bolts under there.

Finally move your seats all the way forward to access and remove the two bolts holding the center console in at the back .

At this point you can pull the center console back a couple inches and lift it up sufficiently to access the amp. You still can't remove it from the truck completely; to do that you would need to pop off the to trim plates and remove the shifter assemply (something I started to do, but quickly aborted once I saw my objective simply by lifting the console).

Some pics:

Well, hello there. OEM Sony amp under center console.

Connectors on side of amp. Center grey one is to the door speakers (wire color codes match door speakers).

Close-up of the center grey connector. It is a "PB1-2". I am going to look for a mating connector so I don't have to splice this one for the amplified signal from my Alpine amp.

Hope this helps somebody.

Do you have any further info/instructions on the other connectors and wiring codes. As well as how you integrated aftermarket amps into the picture?

Thanks.

The way i had understood it.. If i wanted to run a an ms8 and an amp i had to keep my factory amp and run the outputs from the factory amp too my ms8 is this true? (dont mean to hijack the thread..)

The MS8 IS the amp...thats one of the whole reasons for using it. The only thing is doenst have enough power to really run well is the sub...so IF you have the sony system you would keep the factory amp which will stil run the Sony sub, but will not be running the rest of the speakers, thats what the MS8 will be powering. BUT the MS8 still needs an audio signal to actualy amplify, so you use 2 channels after the OEM amp to supply the audio signal
