Oil Change Message, Only 1200 Miles

I think the algorithm used by my 2010 is a bit &^%#^*.
The change oil message came up, showing 5% remaining.
I checked my logs and only have 1200 miles on this oil.
I don't drive as much and I know the "short trip" factors into this.
My last change was in Oct of 2011. I reset the counter then as I do all my oil changes myself. The truck sits for days at a time in my basement.
I will not be dumping 7 qts + a filter, the oil is very clean on the dipstick.
I guess it is a $$ idea Ford has for the dealer's Quick Change dept.

Yes, it is a time factor, coupled with short trips. If you hardly drive the truck, put it on a 6 month change interval if you use conventional or semi-synthetic oil.

What &^%#^* algorithm do you speak of? The one detailed in your manual and maintenance guide? Have you read either of those &^%#^* documents?

For the 09-10 it's 7500 miles or 6 months whichever occurs first.

The "algorithm" is what the computer uses to monitor the oil life. There's a lot more to it than a simple 6 months or 7500 miles, whichever comes first.

Not on the 09-10s. It's simple time or distance.

2011+, yes, there is an algorithm that involves load, RPM, speed, etc.

my 2007 chevy and 2010 camaro both seemed to use the driving habits to come up with a number, seems as if ford is just now doing that
