Unhappy rear wheel hop

On a wet road under moderate acceleration from a stop, my 2011 2WD truck has noticeable rear wheel hop. Apply a little more throttle and it becomes severe -- bam, bam, bam, bam!

Is that just the way it is with the ultra-low 1st gear? Is there anything that can be done about it? My truck has the 5.0 engine with 3.55 limited slip axle.

Pretty disappointing, especially since none of my late 60s and early 80s Chevy pickups ever had that problem.

I didn't know my truck had traction control.??? Haven't seen the dash light flash, or an enable/disable switch like in cars. If it does have traction control, it pretty much sucks.
