Can backup sensors be painted and still function?

I read that the older backup sensors would not work after painting them but I have a 2011 and am wondering if this is still true. I'd like to do a color match.
Thanks

I don't see why they would work on an F150 as long as you don't get paint on the lens part of the sensor. I think I read on another forum where someone painted their sensors.

Just don't get any paint on the lens...even a little frost makes them inoperative...as in lots of beeping when you put it in reverse.
