2010 F150 XLT Supercab - Lemon
I am a life long Ford Truck driver/owner. I have a 2010 F150 XLT Supercab, 4x4, 5.4L. Since new it has made a bottoming out sound when turning right or left over a bump. Been in for repair 4 times. The sound is coming from the advancetrac stability control system(which is tied to the anti-lock brakes). Ford claims it is a natural characteristic for this vehicle.
I have driven 3 exact models and they all do it. After numerous attempts I am forced to take it to court.
Think before you buy another Ford product.

Let me get this straight...you are suing Ford for a NORMAL sound coming from the truck?
Good luck with that! I have the same year and model as you do and have not noticed any abnormal sounds coming from my truck.

If it happened on all three trucks, then you are wasting your time with a lawsuit. I showed my brother, who is a lawyer, this post and he said it would be tossed out on overwhelming grounds that it is a sound only--if you could prove that DAMAGE to the vehicle is occurring during these activities (turning/driving), perhaps you would have a leg to stand on. But only with a noise?
Hang it up.

Yeah, good luck with that. It sounds a lot like what my truck does which is just the traction control/ABS system activating momentarily as one wheel gets light as the suspension cycles through its travel while going over the bump. Its just a noise and totally harmless. You can turn off the advanced trak system if it bothers you that much.
Did you intend to say the other models exhibit the same issue you're having with your truck? If Ford says it's a natural characteristic of the vehicle and every vehicle has the same issue, what do you hope to gain from a suit?

Amazing. Some of you sound like the service dept reps with there n_ts tied up by FORD.
A gridding noise in the ABS system going over a small bump in a brand new truck can't be good for the truck and possibly create a unsafe condition.
So I should except the natural characteristic line? Or is it a common problem.
I guess new people can't post on this forum - efusilier

If your hitting bumps and applying the brakes at the same time the grinding noise is a normal noise to hear. That means the ABS is working to prevent the tires from locking up. Based on your posts I dont know if your using your brakes while hitting the bumps but thats what it sounds like to me. Slam on your brakes in a wet non occupied parking lot and I bet you will hear the same noise.

All,
After 8 visit's to the dealership, a Ford Engineer was able to correct my problem. It was actually a 30 minute fix. The issue was the factory programmed ranges set within the ABS/advantrac program. The noise was the ABS pump preloading for a perceived rollover event. I am glad that it was fixed - I love my truck.
Hope this may help others with a similar noise.

I'm glad to hear your persistence paid off.
So, assuming this was a defect with ALL 2010 trucks, is there going to be a TSB fix or a one time fix?
I honestly can't see them only modify ONE truck without some testing. What if their fix/adjustment reduces the safety effectiveness during a real rollover event?
Sorry, I have no answers, just poking around with random thoughts about the "but what if" game.
