New Cold Air Intake Installed

Just got my new CAI yesterday. It's from S&B Filters and was just released last week. I had been searching for a good CAI for my truck for weeks and was not happy with most of the options. I stumbled on S&B over a month ago and really liked the design but it wasn't available yet. So I waited and waited and waited. They changed the release date 3 times on me

So first I want to say I am in no way affiliated with S&B. I have always put a CAI on my rides, so I feel that I am pretty well versed in what's available and the different styles and options. When I started searching for a CAI I wanted a sealed system so I wouldn't be pulling in hot air out of the engine bay. But it seemed Volant was the only option, and I have not been overly impressed with them, just my opinion. Then I found S&B and was sold!!

This CAI comes with a new Coolant Overflow tank, which allows the filter be larger. And let me tell you, the filter is HUGE!!!! When I pulled it out of the box I couldn't stop smiling. The other feature about the filter that I really liked is that the end is not sealed. It's open with an inverted filter. Hard to explain but I took pics to help you see what I am talking about.

Overall I am VERY impressed with this kit. Craftsmanship and Design is top notch. Installation instructions were very detailed and in color. Took me about an hour and a half to install. First drive and I cetainly noticed better throttle response. Can't really tell if it is louder because my exhaust is already pretty loud. I'm not making any claims on HP or TQ but do plan on putting her on a dyno someday soon. I'll be sure to update everyone once that happens.

So on to the pics:
First the filter. Like I said this bad boy is huge. In this pic you can see what I was talking about with the end not being closed. While that internal filter will probably be a PIA to clean, it equates to more airflow. The intake tube attaches to the other end of the filter.

Another pic of the filter with my old tailgate emblem to give you an idea of size:

Installed pic of the tube, you can see how it tapers down, increasing the force

Sealed filter and new coolant tank overflow installed

Shot of the whole system installed

Oh I almost forgot, the other thing about this CAI that really sold me was that they will be offering a scoop at a later date. They don't have any production pics of it for the F150 yet but this should give you a general idea.

The bottom of the air filter box came with a cap so you can seal it but still be able to add the scoop at a later date. To me this is just as good as a ram air setup. Granted not as bad azz as most, but still this is innovation that you don't find on other CAI. Oh and they even thought of making the scoop part detachable with a cap for your northern boys when your driving through snow drifts.

I don't have to worry about that, thank god!

A custom tune will help dial it in.......slot style MAF's don't like tube size changes associated with cai's.........

Looks good!

Planning on a custom tune. What should I keep an eye out for with the MAF? What issues are there with changing to tube size? They relocated it back by the elbow, not sure if that was done to combat any issues.

Under heavy acceleration if there is a pinging noise.....take it off and put the stock intake back on and wait for a custom tune before reinstalling the cai......the only true way to tell if you're running lean would be using a wide ban meter....

Looks as if they moved the MAF back to the smaller part of the tube where it is closer to the stock tube size. Problems arise if the tube is so big that air can flow around the MAF without being measured.
