I have a XLT with the standard mirrors. I would like to get the ptm white mirrors on my truck. It looks like just a shell cover on the outside? Does anyone know what you have to do to swap them or do I need to take it somewhere and have it painted. Thanks

 

Not sure about the "standard" mirrors, but with an XLT with the turn signal mirrors, you can buy PTM caps and have them painted to match your truck. To see if yours are basically the same mirror, park your truck next to a Lariat or other upper trim level to verify the mirror bodies are the identical.

To remove the caps, you have to separate (pry) the mirror lens from the adjustment motor. Then there are some torx screws holding the front side of the mirror housing on. Once separated, the caps can be removed from the front half of the mirror housing and swapped out. I found specific directions on how to take out the glass on the Muth Mirror website.
