2011 productivity screen question....

To start off with I am very pleased with my new EB. It's nice to have a truck that has some get up and go. My question is, since I have had the truck, which has 568 miles on it now. I have been watching the fuel economy. It has been hovering around 12-12.5. That is interstate and city driving. Last night i filled the tank and decided to reset the fuel mileage. Now it reads anywhere from 12.7 mpg to 14.5, which is the best i seen on the way home last night. I am just curious on how often i need to reset the screen. Yes, I do know its only a computer and is not completely accurate. I also bought the EB for power, not fuel mileage, I am just curious on how this operates. If I wanted fuel milage I would buy a Focus or Fiesta, LOL! Anyone that can give me some insight about this, I would appreciate it.

I always reset the instant MPG screen, and the trip odometer screen @ fuel up. It gives me an idea of current fuel consumption on the current tank of fuel. But I think it's a personal preference as to whether or not when to reset the computers.

You can reset it as often as you would like. Do you want to know your mpg for each tank? Or do you want to know your mpg over the next 2000 miles? MPG for this week?

I usually ignore the main fuel economy screen and use the 2 trip calculators to measure mpg. My first trip is always running, I havnt reset it in 2000 miles, it will show how many miles and mpg since then and Its my goal to beat that mpg. And the second trip I reset after each fill up to watch the mpg and how many miles I got out of that tank.

I have the 5.0 with 3200 miles and when I first started driving it the fuel economy was somewhere around 13-13.5 because of the "new truck lead foot" (130 more hp than my old 4.6) and now it hovers around 16. Your mpg will keep increasing as it breaks in.

You have two trip meters, A and B and then you have the Fuel monitor. I have never reset the primary fuel monitor as I want to know what mileage the truck has gotten from the get go. It is at 18.9 rright now and going up with each tank. I reset one of the trip meters every time I fill up so I can see what I get on that tank, overall. Then on the other trip meter, I play with on different stretches of road to see what I get under different contitions. Just something to do as I drive as I put a lot of miles on the truck.
