First Oil Change Miles
When is everyone changing their oil, 3000 miles, 5000 miles, or waiting for service engine light to come on on the dash? I usually go with 3000 miles but the manual says the light will come on in the dash when it is time to service engine. With my 2003 Jeep I had before my F150, the dealership started using 5000 miles last winter on the service sticker they put on my windshield. Thanks.
What engine do you have? There was a post a couple of days ago that suggested the EcoBoost should be much sooner. I have the 5.0 and am going in at about 3500.

On my 5.0 had the first one done at the dealer at 6k miles (free) close to getting my second one at 12k miles soon. Most of my driving has been highway.

When I bought mine the dealer told me they like to give the first oil change at 1,000mi free of charge and give the truck a once over. So thats what I did and have them service it every 7,500mi since. I know some will disagree with waiting so long but Ford built it so I'll go with their recommendation, thats what the warranty is for. I've got 24,000mi on the clock , so far so good. Its mostly easy highway miles, but if I was doing alot of towing and such, I'd use the 5,000mi severe service.

I would recommend the first change between 2 -3000 miles then follow manufacturers' recommendations. I do my own testing as well as using http://www.blackstone-labs.com/about-us.php and todays oils are far improved from those of just 5-7 years ago.
