From the 2011 and 2012 Order Guides, here are the total combinations being offered as Standard, Optional, or included with a Package comparing 2011/2012:

Limited Slip combinations 50/19
Non-Limited Slip combinations 27/31
E Locker combinations 7/57

For 2012 they offer only 19 possible LS combinations compared to 31 Non-LS combinations and 57 E Locker combos. They went from offering 50 LS combinations in 2011 to just 19 in 2012. They expanded the E-Locker option from only 7 combinations in 2011 to 57 in 2012.

The E Locker is now the most available of the axle combinations, followed by the Non Limited Slip, and then the Limited Slip. The LS was availble in 60% of the combinations in 2011 but is available in only 18% of the possible axles for 2012.
Really, what models don't have a LS axle as an option??

Mike, they really have cut back on the LS - it's only available with 3.73's for 2012. The open and e-locker is available with 3.15, 3.31, 3.55, and 3.73 - and the 4.10 is e-locker only.

If you don't believe me, you need to look at the order guide.

Your truck configuration, as an example, does not have LS as an option for 2012. The only trucks you can get with LS are with a 3.73 axle and even then most choices require a Maximum Tow Package or a Heavy Payload Package to get it. Read the Order guide if you want more details.

Why did Ford make this change for 2012? If we don't know the real reason, does anyone care to speculate?

Maybe because it's redundant with traction control?

They decided we didn't need it. But many of us still want it.
