Anyone know what is done special on California emission rated F150s

In my search for a gloss black truck with NAV I have found a couple but they have California emissions. Not being located anywhere near there I am not sure what that means. Does it have extra large CATS or extra CATS to clean the emissions more, do they run hotter for cleaner burns?

I've searched high and low and still have no answer on "HOW" the vehicles are different. Lots guesses that the cats might have a different catalyst in them. Every search just states that the CA laws are stricter and nothing about how the manufactures achieve these "stricter" rules. Another common guess is that there really is no difference in the vehicles because it would be impossible for the manufacture to segregate CA cars from others on the assembly line. Mainly because other states have adopted CA laws also. The only difference is the sticker under the hood?
Then again, I just got my window sticker for my truck and it says **** California emissions**** $0.00
So maybe they can seperate them on the assembly line???

Sorry I'm no help, but many other have the same question with no answer.

The only thing I know is that you can NOT register a vehicle in California that does not have a factory California Emissions Compliant certification if the vehicle has less than 7,500 miles (look on the driver's side door pillar and you will see a statement indicating if the vehicle is legal to sell new in California). Otherwise, everything is fair game!

I wouldn't sweat it too much and just get whatever vehicle that meets your requirements. There should be negligible performance difference and any mechanical difference should not translate to any additional costs when it comes to service and repair; besides, dealer service centers always use the VIN number when ordering replacement parts to ensure they get the correct ones. Can't say what a third-party repair shop would do, however...

C.A.R.B. approved is probably all it is. If you buy the vehicle elsewhere they don"t charge you for it, But if it is purchased in Calif there is a charge. Like paying for a license to do business here on the left coast. Rotten commie rat #%$tards!!!!!

But that is just my guess.

I've always been told that all new vehicals are built to California emissions standards (Thanks for the crappy gas mileage and restrictive intake/exhaust).

I would think they would all have the stickers on them, but maybe only some of them get the stucker while all being built the same...

All new vehicles are now built to CA emission standards. The only difference is that every vehicle headed to CA is tested. 49 state vehicles are sample tested.
