What the heck is this ?

Hey Guy's, what is this this ? no interconnection with anything, no wires, no nothing. My Father in-law essentially has the same truck, not on his.
Both are 2010, 5.4 w/3.55 & tow package.

Thats weird and doesn't look factory. Maybe it quiets vibrations in the exhaust or something?

first guess al-queda got to your truck first before your inlaws truck for bomb transportation.

second guess some sort of noise or harmonic vibration limiter. you said essentially. do you two have different cabs hence different length exhaust tubes??

It is a dampener for noise and vibration, and yes it is from the factory. Suppose to help with the harmonics of the engine exhaust to eliminate drone from the engine getting in the cab of the truck.

Hahahah I have that on mine too and was like wtf? when we were putting the new corsa kit in....... I assumed it something to do with absorbing vibration.

Yes like Papajohn said it is a dampener for noise and vibration in the exhaust so that its quieter inside the cab without the drone, its also factory and I believe that it does help out a little bit!

Thanks guys, I guess I can get rid of the lead wrap around now. It was killing my mileage.

there's one on my 03 too. Guy at the muffler shop said it was a balancer, to keep the exhaust from rattling... I think it's the reason the inlet neck on my mufflers keep breaking welds.. all that weight bouncing and pulling down on it... I might hack it off & see what happens. Never had them on any of my other trucks.

I had something similar on my 2001, but it was a sealed metal tube with rubber inside of it. I had removed it when I replaced the factory exhaust with a cat back dual system. The drone was really bad @ 60-70MPH, and I reinstalled it. It helped a little, but I guess it was only meant for the factory setup.

thats what mine looks like, long black metal tube sealed on both ends. Welded to the pipe about a foot in front of the muffler. Everything from that forwards is stock, muffler back is aftermarket.
