How did you check the battery ? Sometimes a baffed battery will still measure decent with a voltmeter (no load).

starter

First have the battery check by your local auto parts store, they all do it for free. If that checks out, the next step is your starter. Sometimes when a starter goes bad it'll still work when given a higher boost, like from a jump from a car that's running. Battery first then starter.

Then check battery voltage while engine running though this high heat will kill batteries with a low soc

Many thanks for the guidance. Turns out it might be the battery after all. I swapped it for a known working unit and it fired up first time.

Thanks again.

Glad you got it working. You have to remember you have to do a load test on these batteries to properly test them. They will all ready proper voltage but as soon as you but a load on them they will short out.
