I am looking at buying a black platinum 6.2 and they force you into the max tow pkg because of the 6.2L and hence the tow mirrors.
Anyone know if you can get the full featured std mirrors put on the truck without any problems, and would the power fold feature work if I got a set of std mirrors?

I have a set of Blue Flame tow mirrors from a 2009 FX4 with 37,xxx miles on it. I'm looking for standard powered signal mirros (preferably with blue flame skull caps). Anyone looking to trade? or sell?

Sorry about my post in this forum, for whatever reason I could not post in the classifieds.
I wish you had all black, because I'm looking for tow mirrors. I have exactly what you are looking for except mine are all black on my 09' with 20,xxx miles..

CC1999 I have a 2010 f150 with standard mirrors power, heat, turn signals but they are flat black. If you do buy that truck and want to trade or even buy my mirrors let me know.
thanks

The truck I am trying to trade for is the new, or should I say the old gloss black that Ford just changed the line back over too a couple months ago. I believe all 2010s and most all 2011s are metallic black. Now that I think about it for some reasonI am thinking that Platinums were chrome capped rather then painted.

The main thing I am trying to find out is if the power fold feature can be added if the mirrors were to be swapped over to the std size mirrors. I don't really need the TT mirrors for the trailers I pull, and I do use the power fold feature on the other trucks I have had that had the pwr fold feature.

cc1999,

I would think you would need the actuator switch to make the mirrors fold.

My truck came with the tow mirrors but both mirrors had a few minor scratches on them. The dealer told me he would replace them, but would have to order them and would take a few days. While he was ordering replacement mirrors, I took delivery and drove the truck for a few days. I found that I really disliked the tow mirrors. They were just too big and stuck out like Mickey Mouse ears. I couldn't even get through the drive-thru at my bank because the mirrors stuck out too far.

I called the dealer and asked if he could cancel the order for the new tow mirrors and instead order me the "regular" mirrors as a replacement for the scratched tow mirrors. He agreed and I am very glad that he did. The regular mirrors just feel better to me. They seem to flow with the truck as opposed to sticking out from the truck. I rarely tow anything, but during the times that I do, I think the regular mirrors will work just fine. And now I can go through the drive-thru at my bank.

I swapped from the tow mirrors to the standard mirrors and even though the standard mirrors showed the power fold emblem, the power fold did NOT work. I took it back to the dealer and they did some research. After a couple of hours they told me that the trucks that come with tow mirrors from the factory do not come with the necessary internal components for the power fold option because the tow mirrors can't be folded. Once they figured that out they installed the necessary wiring and the power fold has worked like a charm since.

By the way - I didn't think the power fold option was at all necessary and maybe even a little on the silly side. Boy was I wrong! Anytime I go through the drive thru at the bank, or other drive-thrus, or enter a small/crowded parking space, the power fold feature is a VERY nice thing to have. I'm not sure I could get along without it now.

On my Vehicles that have them those are the same places I use mine, sometimes even in my garage where I try and squeeze the truck over as much as possible, is when it is really nice to be able to power fold them in at the last second and then fold them back out when I am clear of the garage wall. If I didn't have them I would have to back out the whole way blind with them manually folded in. I agree completely once you have them you find good uses for them.

Finally after 3 weeks of wheeling dealing, loosing them and finding them, I think this time I got my deal done on the new 6.2 Platinum. As soon as I take possession of it, I plan to try and get the mirrors swapped out. So anyone know exactly what I should tell the dealer service techs involving how to make the power fold mirrors actually power fold?

I might be able to help, but I am needing power fold platinum mirrors to put back in there place, and so far what I am finding on ford parts websites online this morning it is putting them well over a grand and still needing a few other parts to make them work, plus dealership labor. Its looking like a pretty expensive project from what I am seeing so far.
