2010 5.4l reliability?
2010 5.4l reliability?
Hello, I haven't been on this forum sence I bought my F-250, but I'm looking at trading it in on another F-150.
I found a 2010 F-150 4x4 with the 5.4l in it and 10,000 miles. The car fax and service records are clean. My question is, are there any common issues to look out for with this model and drivetrain?
I have been searching and looking through old posts but I didn't notice any reoccurring problems that stuck out to me. Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks, Robbie

Oh, but wait... Soon the naysayers will be here touting blown spark plugs, cause we all know a 5.4L is a 5.4L, and they are all the same.
I've put my 2010 to the test enough... You've got nothing to worry about. Go for it. I've logged a few hundred thousand on 5.4's between three trucks, and they've been bulletproof.

It's more of a crappy design causing a nuisance. I think there was a TSB for them but I could be wrong. Many people have done nothing and their trucks run just fine. Anybody else want to add to the cam phaser problem? I have had my truck for 7 months so I am a bit unfamiliar with the 5.4 liter.
Cam phaser problems are caused by using oil filters that are not Motorcraft. Many oil filters as Fram, drop the oil pressure and plug the orfices with the interior paper falling apart. Since the cam phaser is the further from the oil feed, it gets damage. Was talking to a Ford Mechanic just the other day about that problem. Stay with Motorcraft and you won't have the problems.
BTW, going on 11,000 miles and only issue was having the sync software updated. My Ford 2008 Sport and this F150 are proving to be the most reliable vehicles I have ever owned.

Ive had my '10 f150 for about a year and a half now...no problems. I bought it BECAUSE it had the 5.4L. Its not the most powerful engine around but it has been around long enout that i think most of the bugs have been worked out of it.
Ive got 26k miles on the truck so far...ive not had so much as a hiccup from it. I pull a 2,500 lb trailer 200 miles each weekend on the highway, i drive it to work every day during the week, i hunt out of it all winter...its great.

This is my second 5.4L, my first (an 01 screw), was over a 100k miles when I sold it and only replaced a fan clutch on it, and a pulley, no real engine work. I pull a 5k boat with it all day with no problems.

I have 44K on my 2010 and I have not had any issues. It runs great and it pulls a trailer very nice. It rattles a little when its hot, but the Ford guys said just run it and not worry about it. That is what I have done and I have not had any issues with the drive train at all. Just a crappy A/C.
Never had an issue with either of my 5.4L (04 and 10). Got 16k on my 10 bought new in October, since April I have averaged 17.3 mpg...... 4x4 3.55LS, she sees about 300 miles a week on I-70 in central Illinois.....
