My wife and I just bought a Hyundai Elantra for her to drive to work. The dealership didnt have one in so we ordered one. We didnt trade in our old car at that time because they werent going to give us much for it. So I sold it on craigslist a couple days after we ordered the Elantra. Then I went back to the dealer and told them I needed a loaner while we waited for our car to come in. They gave us a 2010 Elantra to drive while our 2011 was being shipped in. We ended up having the loaner for 3-4 weeks. I would have told the dealership give me a loaner. Even if it was an older used truck, just something to get by.

A very good reason why ford should have a factory pickup option. (like the corvette plant has)
I know for a fact that he's not the only one that has cancelled a order for the same reason he did.
His was build within 8 weeks of order and been sitting in a rail car or lot since then. Thats 5 weeks ....ford could have had the money from this sale a long time ago.
Ohh.....forgot...no sale.
Once ford releases the vehicle to the shipping company, it's out of ford's hands.
That dosen't mean ford has to give it's blessing to the all to often "extended delivery time frame".
Someone at work had told me one of the reasons of slow rail delivery is " a shortage " of railcars
wonder if them being tied up sitting around rail-yards already loaded for weeks on end, has anything to do with the shortage.

*UPDATE*

There was a message from the owner of the dealership on my home answering machine when I got home Sat night. Apparently the dealership is offering me a loaner truck. They were closed by the time I got the message. He left his cell # and asked me to call him immediatey. I will call the business line Mon morn. The truck I ordered was BUILT April 25. It has been sitting in a lot at the Dearborn plant since then. There are no quality holds or parts holds on the truck. I have had a vin since the beginning of April. A superintendent I know at Ford's Chicago plant who used to be a superintendent at Dearborn made some calls for me & no one could tell him why my truck is sitting. I haven't signed anything on the GMC yet. I had planned to do that Mon so I'll call the Ford dealer & see what they have to say 1st.

That is my local dealer. But im still open for getting what i want for the price i want. Thats why my dealership is selling so many cars on the internet to out of state folks. They do what they have to do to sell cars and get your business. Sounds like your dealer doesnt want to do any leg work for ya. Of course whatever makes you happy is all that matters in the end. You have to pay for it. I used to use another dealership and they were telling me crap like that also so i went back locally and have taken care of me and my extended families as well.

I couldn't replace my 2003 F-150 with a new half ton GM truck. It has the smallest crew cab (same as my truck, but new Ford/Dodge/Toyota are much larger). Less torque from the 5.3L, but more gears. My wife works at GM, but I couldn't buy a new half ton GM.

That said, call Ford Marketing to find out if there are any vehicles equipped exactly how you want throughout the country. They were very helpful and patient with my picky requests.

I say good for you. If Ford couldn't even get you info on the status of your new truck then why bother with any of the trucks on their lot. You had every right to look elsewhere and I'm glad you found a truck that will work for your needs. Hope it's awesome.

What is it with companies losing customer service these days? For the price of a truck you'd think they could at least follow a paper trail to see what's going on with it.

I did the same thing but after 9 weeks. I had on order a 2011 ecoboost king ranch. The dealer couldn't tell me when I would get it and the ford rep didn't have a timeline either. Mine wasn't even built after 9 weeks. BUT I didn't take a gm I just bought a lariat off the lot and I love it!!!

I ordered mine just before Xmas and picked it up in March. The trucks are worth the wait. Hopefully your getting it now, instead of the GMC.

It is happening to all the brands. My buddy waited around 9 months for his brand new cayenne gts. He didn't mind all that much because it is his second gts and it is for the wifey, lol!

yea they should require a big deposit before you order, so you have something to loose if you back out

I will say 13 weeks is a bit of a wait, can't say I wouldn't be frustrated too. However, I don't think I would have strayed away from Ford.
