Question 2011 Limited vs. Platinum - soundproofing the same?

Hi Guys - Im new here - looking at getting a new truck - wife liked the Platinum Silver with mocha (brown?) leather - I prefer the Limited due to the tri-coat white - anyways the question I have is with respect to the soundproofing (SoundScreen windshield, foam insulation, thicker carpet, etc.) between these two trim levels.

Sales person indicated the Platinum is the only version with additonal soundproofing - which doesn't make sense to me.

Can anyone confirm that the Limited also has the same screen and sound proofing? Does the windshield indicate anywhere that the glass is indeed "Soundscreen"? My wife thinks the 6.2 will be too load at highway speeds without the additional soundproofing.

Thanks guys!

Limited & platinum are the same in respect to sound deadening etc..

6.2 won't be loud cruising at highway speeds, it would be much more noticeable during acceleration. Easiest way to handle that concern though, is to take the wife out on a test drive on the highway.

Either truck will be great im sure.. The differences between the two trims are what you can see. No "hidden" secret differences between the two.

It sounds kind of odd, but anything is possible I guess. Salesmen don't always know what they are talking about though. I would say to pick the truck you want, and if sound is an issue, have the interior stripped and dynomat the entire cab. Floor, ceiling, inside doors, cab back wall..... As far as a quieter windshield..... the thought makes me laugh. I guess you can't count out science, but bahahahahahahahaha

Or tell you what you want to hear, for that matter.

Test drives are in order, it's the only way to compare vehicles.

Unless your heart is set on the 6.2, why not try out the 3.5 ecoboost? Similar numbers in HP/TQ (a bit lower) and it is really quiet, if that is a big sticking point. Mine is the quietest vehicle I've ever owned. Some people want nothing to do with that, but I think it's great, never have been into a loud exhaust note.

Is the ecoboost available with those 2 trims? I didn't think the Platinum had the ecoboost option.

I just bought the Eco-Boost Lariat the other day. Traded out of my 09 Lariat with the 5.4. I have to agree that if engine sound is a concern, the Eco-boost is the most quiet and has nearly the same power. Who seriously needs the 6.2 anyways? The Eco-boost with 365 HP and 420lbs of torque are plenty power for most people. Try to get one with 3.55 Limited slip to increase the towing. Most dealers seem to order with the 3.31 rear end, which drastically affects towing capabilities.

Is there a difference in the sound dampening from Lariat up? I would think not, but who knows. I would like an answer to that question.

Not a direct answer to your question, but an idea, in case you haven't thought of it
Having my wife's new MKX undercoated plus sound barrier done at Ziebart as we speak

i would be willing to bet that the db ratings between a platinum. lariat. fx4 . limited trucks are not enough a person could even register while driving. I cant comment on the plats, because ive never owned them. I have owned 2 fx4's and a lariat and test drove each the same day and could tell no difference....engine noise will be the only noticable difference going from the 6.2l to the ecoboost. my 2010 has a louder exhaust then the stock 06 i had before....
anyway i also wouldnt take a salesmans word for anything...almost every dealer i have met never knew what the crap they were talking about.

Platinum is offered with EcoBoost, 5.0L or 6.2L
Lariat Limited is only offered with 6.2L (no other engine option)

The Ecoboost is going to be an issue I think in the long run if warranties aren't added. Those turbos are going to need to be replaced so if you plan to keep it a long time, I'd say the 6.2

I know the Platinum has a ton of extra viseo-elastic sound dampening on the frame and around the engine compartment. It is one of the quietest vehicles I have ever ridden in.

I have a Platinum EB and don't regret not getting the 6.2 at all. The EB gets a solid 3 -3.5MPG more than my old 5.4s did while making more power. The 6.2 might have equaled the 5.4 on a good day.

I will be keeping my future new truck for a long time. That is the reason why i am leaning towards the 5.0, which is getting excellent reviews as well. I will test drive the ecoboost too, just to be sure.

Right and I just feel like there are going to be issues with these motors in the long run. Not to say the other new engines can go wrong too, but like a diesel, turbos will wear out; dependent on use of course. People get to wrapped up in hp numbers... just like the people who trashed the "gutless 2v 4.6" How fast do you need to drive? The 5.0 and in some cases the 3.7 V6 seem like good choices.

Unless Ford straight up lied, it has said since the Platinum version came out in 2009 that it comes with additional sound deadening (windshield, carpeting, etc...). It said it on the website, promos, and the model guide brochure. Take it for what it's worth. My Platinum was the quietest vehicle I had ever been in until I lifted it and put it on all terrains. It's still fricking quiet....

The platinum windshield has the 'Sound Screen' brand marked on the lower drivers side of the windshield. I haven't noticed if the lariat limited has the sound screen or not. Honestly, I went from a 09 lariat to a 11 platinum ecoboost, and the difference in road noise is not really noticeable. They are all very quiet trucks. That said, if you like the Lariat Limited because of the white platinum tri-coat, you can get that color in the Platinum. If engine noise is the issue, get yourself the ecoboost...plenty of power, better economy, and cheaper than the 6.2L.

Keep in mind that there is no sound proofing material effective enough to drown out a nagging wife
