Payload Capacity... WTF

Okay, this is ridiculous... As per Ford's website, a SuperCab with a 145" Chassis (6.5ft bed) and EcoBoost has a payload capacity of 1760lbs or 2080 with the max trailer package.. Based on the information provided on the website how is it that the max tow package on the FX4 adds 320lb payload capacity?

FX comes with the Tow Package with has
Class IV trailer hitch receiver;
7-pin trailer wiring harness;
Upgraded radiator;
Auxiliary transmission oil cooler;
SelectShift transmission;

The Only thing the Max Tow Package Adds is..
Upgraded rear bumper;
Trailer brake controller;
Black manual telescoping trailer tow power, heated exterior mirrors with turn signals and puddle lamps

different springs in the rear would be my guess.

i have safely loaded my bed with 2400lbs of cargo with it not even being near the bump stops.

Those telescoping mirrors add like 2000 lbs capacity just by themselves...

Put a f-250 sticker on her and you can tow up to 15000 pounds.

A guess yes, but there is absolutely nothing that suggests that.. any way we can get part numbers on the suspension parts?

i would nab VINs off 2 super crews comperably equipped, one with max tow and give them to Tasca and have them check and see if the springs have different part numbers. it might not be suggested but its probable. they equip trucks with different spring packages for many different variances. (engine, cab, bed, tow package etc)

which would only be good in 4 low, also - all the F150's come equipped with the same Borg Warner 2.73:1 transfercase

GVWR is higher with the max towing package. Yes the springs are different.

See here. Both payload and GVWR are higher with the * (* Requires Max. Trailer Tow Package. It also forces the 3.73 axle.

I highly recommend the max tow package. An FX trim level will add weight too, so expect the actual payload to be reduced by 150 pounds (check the driver's door sticker of any truck you are interested in.

That said, I've had my truck on a scale 1500 pounds over GVWR, not on the bump stops. Short trips, lower speeds, occasional use only. If you plan to regularly haul 1500+ pounds, then get the heavy duty payload package or a larger truck.

The 3.73's are standard on the FX4.

What what does it give me? Based on Ford's website all you get is a different rear bumper, trailer brake controller and tow mirrors...

The heavy duty payload package is not available on the FX4...

See page 2 of this doc:
http://www.ford.com/resources/ford/g...vF150sep09.pdf

It seems the Max trailer tow and Max payload need to be purchased together.

Thanks for the link but I am looking at getting a 2011. That guide is for 2010 models (EcoBoost wasn't even available) and the Max Payload is not an option on the FX4, it seems to only be an option on the XLT with an 8ft bed..

Yeah, couldn't find the 2011 doc. However, If you look at the 2010 charts the payload goes up as the capabilities of the engine goes up and/or the size of the gearing. Just a numbers game...

Probably cant get the max payload in the FX4 because of the shocks, etc...

And higher payload. Click on the "See Here" link above. Springs are different. Used to be 4 leafs vs. 3. I think now both have 3 springs, but higher rate for the max tow package.

What are your intended used for this truck? Why are you concerned with payload?

Doesn't the Max payload package also upgrade the rear diff to a 10" ring gear? I seem to remember reading that somewhere.
