Finally hooked th RV to her.

I have only towed this TT with my 08 SD V10, so I have been patiently waiting to hook it up and take it for a ride and compare. This 3.5 EB is unbelievable, it pulls this TT easier than the V10, it is effortless! The only neg I found was you can definitely feel the difference towing with the lighter truck, but the built in sway control quickly kicks in and corrects it. It was very windy today and I did not have my hitch sway control on, so it will be much better. Brakes are great and have no problems stopping it. Now this was only a 15 mile each way test drive to the CAT Scales, but I have to say I am very happy with the way the truck handled the load and I am extremely pleased with the EB's power! It pulled this thing with less effort than the V10 did! The pics may be deceiving, the pavement is not level and the rear truck tires are sitting in the lowest point some what exaggerating the squat.

You will love the power, but hopefully your mileage is better than mine. 65-70mph pulling a 6,000 lb 24x8.5 enclosed trailer, I was getting around 8mpg. My tires and gear ratio don't help matters, but these things drink down the fuel with a load behind them for sure.

Steer axle #3020
Drive axle #3520
Trailer axle #6440
GCVW = #12,980
To short of trip to get any real MPG's average between 20 and 22 combined city/highway, while towing the instant guage was fluctuating between 10 and 15 @ 55mph. Not great but the SD with the V10 avg. 6-8 towing and 10-13 daily driving City/highway. When I am towing I keep it right at 65 on the highway so it wont be much worse.

I got 10.5 mpg with my 30' TT, 6200# dry weight. This was a 150 mile round trip into the mountains of east Tennessee. I figure I might be able to get 12.5 mpg or so on relatively flat highway. 2011 screw ecoboost 4x4, xlt, 3:55s.

I didn't think that it would effect the MPGs as much as it really did. The 34" E load tires and 4.10 gears on mine brought it down into the V10 SD range

You got too much tongue weight or too much gear in the bed. Beef up the rear suspension or something otherwise you're loosing steering ability.

X2... I was looking at the squat on the rear tires as well. I imagine that ride would have felt a little water truckish.

I installed a set of Procomp (long) add-a-leafs in my 09 FX4 because I thought my 3000# trailer was too heavy for the wishy washy suspension supplied on our trucks.

You said you didn't have sway control hooked up, but did you at least have weight distribution? If so, it is not set up correctly. Part of your sway problem is the light front end causing steering issues.

If you want to eliminate the "sag" ( i know you mentioned it's exaggerated) look into Timbren springs. They just replace the stock bump stops with longer ones. 10 min install and they work awesome. I picked them up from these guys .. http://www.stengelbros.com/TimbrenRideControlKits.htm

Too much sag when hooked to a bumper pull trailer means the weight distribution is incorrect, or its overloaded.

There is a nice thread on rv.net detailing weight distributing hitch setup. OP stated the parking lot shot was deceiving as rear tires were in a dip. If so then no way to tell how hitch is actually set up.

Took mine out this weekend fine to fine tune my setup. Equal squat on all four corners of tow vehicle for the win.

Jimmy - I just got a NEW 2010 F150 FX4 5.4-3.73 gears-4X4.
I could not get the BRAKE CONTROLLER to work my 4200 LB STARCRAFT POPUP. It works just fine using the FINGER CONTROL but not using the BRAKE PEDAL. Did you have any problems like this. I am pretty sure all of the wiring on the trailer side is OK. All of the lights on the trailer work ok...

I can slide the wheels on the trailer using the MANUAL CONTROL which means the power is geting too the ELECTRIC BRAKES ok.

I jacked up one wheel on the trailer and verified it was activating the ELECTRIC BRAKES real good in MANUAL MODE but nothing when I push on the BRAKE PANEL.

I would like to learn more about the problem before I take it back to FORD as they are just going to say its ok on our end - must be your trailer haha...

After messing around with the INFORMATION MENU I finally got it to show the TRAILER BRAKE INFO for both the MANUAL mode and the BRAKE PEDAL MODE. I can adjust the ELECTRIC BRAKE VOLTAGE OK in the manual mode. I checked the POWER DIST FUSE PANEL under the hood and all the fuses associated for the ELECTRIC CONTROL are in place.

Really at a loss of what to check next... Im almost thinking I have the ELECTRIC BRAKE VOLTAGE going down the BLUE wire from the 7-pin connector ok but there isnt enough amps there to kick in the electric brake solenoid when I am using the BRAKE PEDAL.

It is strange to me that it really works GREAT in the MANUAL finger mode and not in the PUSH the brake pedal mode... The stop lights come on when the brake pedal is pushed in ok...

Ford will probably want me to bring the truck and trailer and charge me a fortune to fix it... All of this worked just fine using a PRODIGY BRAKE CONTROLLER in my 2004 F150 that I traded in on this unit...

I have a prodigy brake controller, the factory wire kit comes with a relay and fuse you have to put in, in I think slot21 and 9, check and see if you have anything in these slots. Brakes work fine.

As for the hitch yes it is WD but not set up for the truck yet, it is still set up for the f250 4X4, no problems steering on dry land but i will need to get it all set up before doing any real towing. This was only a Quick test run without any adjustments for any thing. Just wanted to get some weights and a good starting point. I will also need to get some of the un-needed junk out of the front storage compartment and better distribute the weight back over the trailer axles. I have always towed this Trailer with the Superduty, so I wasn't worried about the extra weight from all the junk we have been carrying around. Now I will have to be a little more conscious of these things.
