Locating and having a truck delivered

I'm considering having the truck with the options I want located and delivered to a located dealership. I have never done this before. Is there usually a charge associated with this? All the dealerships I have visited said they can locate it but only yesterday did one mention that it would be a $400 charge.

Also, any concerns to be aware of? I'd hate for someone to run the hell out of my brand new truck driving it here. One did mention that they could use a transport truck.

Thanks!

i went to a local dealer and they had a truck on the lot equipped the way i wanted it. only problem, it was black and i wanted a white or silver. they located one and gave me a price of 2 thousand more than the one they had in stock. obviously there is an extra cost involved in a dealer locating a vehicle for you.

i asked to see the window sticker copy and noted the last 5 of the vin number and then came home and looked at the ford dealer inventory site. found where the truck was and emailed them for an internet price. sure enough it was right on par with the price the local guy gave me for the one he had in stock. that dealer was to far away so i will just wait until something happens locally.

i really doubt they will flat bed unless you pay for it. they will get some dufuss from the shop that cant do anything else, like the owners kid or a salesman thats not making quota and send them to get it. they i am sure will drive it like its stolen. not exactly how you would want your first breakin miles to be.

if their is a charge, then i would try and get $1200 below invoice. that $400 is you paying for them to get it and have it shipped to them.

some dealers i talked to didn't say anything about a charge and some did. i chose to drive 4 hours and get mine and not deal with the hassle of the local dealers

If they say there is a charge, thats specific to that dealer. Both my Mustang and F-150 were located and delivered to the dealer I purchased them from, yet they were within a 300 mile radius. Its true that you can get a better deal with a vehicle thats on the lot, but if they want your business they will work with you.

Good Luck!

Is there a way to use the VIN to find the dealership or did you just go to deal sites one at a time and look for it?

Call me silly, but for $30,000 +, I want exactly the truck I want - not something "pretty close." I've speced out my last 8 trucks on the Ford web site, then had my dealer order them for me. At least they're exactly what I want and arrive with no miles on them. I've never searched for one because the chances of me finding one are abut zero given all of the possible combinations of options and colors. So, what not just order one?

Agreed, I looked high and low for the truck I wanted but could only get something close.....I wanted what I wanted, and was not going to spend all that $$$ unless I got it. So I had it ordered. Now I just have to wait, which sucks too! but at least I will have a brand new truck with virtually no miles.

I had mine delivered from a dealer about 40 miles away. It was free of charge and they have guys that are like 60 years old hired specifically to deliver cars. The sales man told me that they drive them like cadillacs and it is all highway. I had no issues when I received my truck.

It is exactly what I would order if I ordered one so thought about having it picked up. The problem with ordering is I have a trade-in which I'm not sure how works. From what I understood you make your deal, put down a non-refundable deposit but when the truck arrives your trade-in can be re-evaluated which sounds like could put you in an awkward position. Not sure if that is a fact or not but something I found when researching.

when i was at the local dealer and he showed me a copy of the window sticker there was the vin number on it. like i said i jotted the number down and when i got home i pulled up the ford website that you put a zip in and it locates 5 local dealers. on the left side i clicked on the packages on the truck. it was not on the first 5 dealers so i put in a zip 75 miles away and did the same. up came the truck by zip. i then sent an email asking for the internet price. came back far less than what the local dealer would have charged me for locating it.
