Sync USB2 Mod ?'s

I have a few questions for those of you that have completed the USB2 Mod. I am in the process of completed this mod. Currently I have been using a USB thumb drive in the dash. I have been having issues with Sync freezing, or the thumb drive is stuck on eternal initializing when leaving the device connected the next time I start the truck. I can recover the system by pulling out the thumb drive, and reinserting it. I have tried 3 different thumb drives, completed a master reset for each one, and made sure they are formatted FAT32.

Has anyone that has completed the USB2 Mod experienced these problems. I want to do this mod to leave the device connected without having to remove it all the time. I have contacted Sync, and there is no update for this problem as of yet. I currently have a 2011 Sync Gen1 V3.2.

Welcome to the club...there are many other 2011 F150 owners with the same sync problems you have described. Ford has been taking a long time to come out with a fix for this.

In the meantime, you will need to pull the usb drive out before shutting sync off and plug in the usb drive after the sync system is powered up. If you do this, you will not have the problems you described.

Mo Power, Thanks for the info. Hopefully there will be an update to fix this soon. Just annoying after paying good money for something that doesn't work like you want.

Do external HDs suffer the same problem?

Sorry to hear that the 2011 owners are having an issue with this. I have a 2010 with the USB2 mod with a hard drive with close to a 100 gigs of music and I do not have any sync issues. Was there a change in the 2011 software from the 2010s?

The only problem I seem to have is that if I leave my Ipod plugged in when the truck is off, when I start the truck most times it will not be connected to my phone. Sometimes the syncbuttons won't even work.

My Ipod is always connected. Th eonly problem I've had is one time the phone didn't link with the truck. I attempted to make a call and the Sync asked if I wanted it to search for phones. I said yes and it linked with my phone. Other than that I've had no problems at all with the Sync system.
