Remote Start Question

Twice in the past week, my truck has failed to start with the remote. I follow the procedure (lock, start, start), but the horn beeps once and then nothing.

I have an '11 FX2 w/ 5.0L and factory remote start.

According to the manual, if there's a problem, I should get TWO beeps.

Also, the problems listed (not in park, alarm has activated...) don't apply.

Help.

you sure youre doing it right?? with mine (on my '10) i need to hit unlock 3 times to start it. the doors automatically lock when it atrats up. seems like you are hitting lock 3 times causing the doors to lock and the alarm to set resulting in the one horn beep which is the correct format for that function.

Nope, I'm doing it right. I use the remote start every day.

I'm not hitting "lock" three times. I don't know how the '10 works, but on the '11, there's a "start" button on the remote. The correct sequence is 'lock, start, start".

On my truck, hitting "lock" once, locks the doors, the second time, the horn beeps as an acknowledgement. I don't know if there's any reason to hit "lock" a third time. To the best of my knowledge, the alarm is set anytime the doors are locked.

Its brand new. Take it back to the Dealer and have them look at it. Thats why you paid so much money for the truck. Just my 2 cents.

My salesman told me to hit Lock-Lock-Start-Start. I don't recall his reasoning for the second 'Lock' but maybe that will work for you. Be Safe.

Chris, I was within range. I watched the lights flash as I pushed the buttons.

Ret, if it never worked, I'd try your suggestion, but it works perfectly almost always. In fact it worked perfectly this morning. Also, I live in a condo building, I'd rather not have the beep on the second "lock".

mine won't start if i'm too far away i.e. other side of the parking lot but it will lock/unlock from that distance so maybe theres a distance restriction.

My '10 factory alarm/start is a press and hold start button to activate.

• The alarm system is triggered.
• The feature has been disabled.
• The hood is not closed.
• Two remote vehicle starts have already been attempted within the last
hour.
• The vehicle is not in P (Park).

Starting the engine with remote start

To start the engine using remote start:
Note: Each button press must be done within 3 seconds of each other. If
this sequence is not followed the vehicle will not remote start and the
horn will not chirp.
1. Press <Lock>on the IKT to lock all the doors.
2. Press <Start> two times. The exterior lamps will flash twice.
If for some reason, the system fails to start, the horn will chirp twice.
3. Insert the key in the ignition and turn to the on position before
driving.

I have this same issue with my 2011 F-150 5.0L the second day I had it. It was about -45 degrees in the morning when I tried remote starting it, did the exact same thing as yours, just flashed the lights and beeped. I then got in the truck to manually start it, electronic seats moved up, dash lights came on, but she wouldn't turn over or even make a noise. I knew the battery was still good, but I hooked up jumper cables anyways to try something, still nothing but then magically after about 10 minutes she fired up like nothing was wrong. I called my dealership and asked about it but they'd never heard of that happening.

That was the only time it ever happened but one other time my driver side window wouldn't work when everything else did. That also magically just started working after about 15 minutes. No idea why though.

This happened to me the other morning, but I realized why shortly after. I pressed lock, start, start, then accidentally hit the start button again, which cancels it. So, when I tried again, the truck just honked at me. Apparently, you can't start it twice with the remote in a short period of time.

doesn't the manual state if it beeps it means fails to start? brush up on the manual if you haven't already.

like i said earlier, make sure your in range. i've found my remote start range is tremendously shorter than my lock/unlock/alarm range.

if it's an actual issue take it to the dealer.
