Tire mileage

What is the best tire for mileage out there? I'm looking for a more aggressive looking tire than the stock on/off road ones. I had BFG's on my Tacoma and got about 40k, same with Goodyear Wranglers. These were 31x10.5x15.

Now is there a difference with stock size tires between 17, 18 or 20" wheels. I do know the larger size tire the more expensive the tire. But the same tires get the same mileage regardless if its 17, 18 or 20".

A taller tire rolls less in a mile then a shorter one so I guess the taller one will go farther before wearing out, wheel diameter has nothing to do with it.

From what my tire man told me about tires, the large tires wear out faster because the side walls are thinner and it heats up quicker and hotter. Therefore they become softer. Costco tire center, that's the info they told me.

Depending on the tire, the tread depth usually decreases as you go up in overall height. So the advantage is somewhat negated.

The milage you get out of a tire has everything to do with tread design and rubber hardness or softness and nothing to do with tie size.

Agreed x2

However it does have everything to do with HOW you drive the truck, if your drag racing off the line and pealing out you will of course see a dramatic decrease in the longevity of your tires vrs driving like a little old lady to church.

I purposely wanted 17" on my truck, knowing that the 18"s in exact same tire was more expensive. And I also thought that the tread life was less. So you guys have gotten good mileage on an 18" truck tire? I don't drive over 70 on interestate and stay to speed limit on back roads. Gas is too expensive to fly around. It just seems that the 18"s look nicer on trucks and it's hard to find a nice 17" wheel. Anything less than 40k on tires is too little IMO.
