Great idea let's required all new vehicles to be more fuel efficient than ever and later allow a less efficient fuel blend at the pumps that probably won't be any cheaper.

Also what requirements make any 2001 car or truck e15 compatible and 2000 not?

Did you take the time to read all of the information the offer on that site? It explains why.

"MY2000 and older motor vehicles have much less sophisticated emissions control systems than newer motor vehicles. At this time, there is insufficient data to demonstrate that the use of E15 will not cause or contribute to the failure of these motor vehicles to meet the emissions standards to which they were certified. In EPA’s judgment, MY2000 and older motor vehicles may experience conditions that lead to emission increases if operated on E15. These concerns include the potential for catalyst deterioration or catalyst failure, as well as materials compatibility issues that could lead to elevated exhaust emissions and exceedances of the standards. For motorcycles and nonroad products, there are additional concerns with the use of E15."

This is the same sort of stuff that came out when we swapped over from leaded to unleaded (no-lead as some may remember) or another fun change, when they started selling gas-a-hol. We quickly learned that the alcohol had detrimental effects on rubber items within the fuel system. You know unimportant things like fuel pump diaphragms or carburetor accelerator pump diaphragms or some seals/gaskets. At least today, we are able to access this information in a timely fashion. We were not able to get it back in the fun days of the 70's and early 80's.

Yes, but the idiots at the EPA seem to believe that adding yet another choice (E15) at the pump will solve the problem by letting folks choose the "proper" fuel to put in their vehicle. Now let's see, the average island has 87, 89 and 92 octane gasoline plus maybe diesel fuel. (Nobody ever makes the wrong decision now.) Then we'll add E15 to the mix - in which octane levels? This is gonna get ugly. Fortunately, somebody's going to make money repairing all the damage it causes.

What really concerns me is the '92 high performance outboard on my boat. No fuel injection and no knock sensors. It requires 91 or greater octane fuel or it will literally melt down the pistons according to my engine builder. E10 has caused all sorts of problems with octane loss and phase separation. With E15, it can only be better!

I hear ya. The fuel mileage in all of my vehicles has gone to hell since the introduction of E10.I can hardly wait for it to get even worse.

It is too far gone to stop now. The agenda's of each party has only their best interest (not the American people) in mind. If and when cars get the mandated 50mpg,60mpg etc.. The price of gas will go up proportionately $5,$6/gal. So in the end cars will cost more to make therefore we will pay more to buy them, but we will still spend the same amount of our monthly budget to commute.

Why do people have to be so negetive?

Look at this in a positive way.

If the government can accelerate the destruction of more fossil fule burning vehicles in a shorter amount of time, we will be able to depend less on foriegn oil and we will all purchase electric vehicles.

Really, can't you see that the American people just can't think for themselves. Thankfully we have a government who has decided to do that for us.
