Help!! SYNC PROBLEMS !! on new 2011 FX2

When I press source on my wheel it it quickly shows sync then skips to am/fm radio. accessing it from the center console yeilds nothing. My voice command button wheel does nothing now.

I already pulled the sync 15 amp fuse for a minute. should i unplug the battery? foe how long?

edit. i also turned it on without the fuse and instead of showing sync quickly it just completley skips it. so with the fuse it does know its there but it skips it. this is Sync without Nav.

My guess is that you had a device plugged into the USB port?

If yes, then I have a trouble ticket open, and hopefully there will be a software fix soon. I would suggest NOT keeping anything continuously plugged into your USB port (unplug before you shut off the truck), at least until a software update is next available.

I have the same exact problem. Your issue will come back. When my sync system acts up, I cannot select my usb port...it kicks back to the radio. The media button also does nothing.

You will probably find that this problem occurs when your start your vehicle up. When sync is running mine tends to stay running. When the vehicle is shut off and restarted, it will sometimes work and other times it will not.

I opened a trouble ticket with Ford. My dealer saw the problem first hand and the sync tech said he couldn't do anything about it. I paid a visit to the service manager and said that response was not acceptable.

He is going to do some research with Ford to see what the next steps are. This may be one of the reasons why ordered trucks are not shipping right now. This sync issue is pretty bad.

I'll keep you all posted on what happens.

What kind of USB device are you using? IPOD, Hard drive, usb mem stick? Are you using it on USB 1 (the console) or USB2 (glovebox mod)?

I've seen a lot of this type of problem on several threads, I have 2 theories about it:

1) Power Draw - not all hard drives are created equal, some draw a lot of power some very little. I have seen where using a different hard drive or memory stick solves the issue. (Hint: if the drive came with a Y cable to plug into 2 usb ports it probably is a poor choice for Sync) Also make sure your using a laptop drive not a desktop drive, there's a big difference not just in power requirements but also in how sensitive the device is to vibrations.

2) Formatting - Don't make your drive "bootable" when you reformat it fat32. Synch may be tryign to boot from your device vrs it's own OS. If you have a mem stick that autoloads a U3 platform you want to reformat/disable the U3 side. I think this also confuses Sync since most of the issues I see with certain brands of USB drives the ones that come blank work great, the ones that come with all the fancy U3 apps seem to have issues. Since Sync is from Microsoft it may have the kernel hooks to try to use these devices but not have all the code needed to do so and get's confused.

Bottom line the Sync system is not that forgiving in terms of what it expects to see, keeping it as simple as possible seems to work best with it.

im using a 4gig PNY flash drive with no pre-installed software its completley blank with only 15 mp3 files. All of this was before the 2nd USB mod. I just did that one last night. I avoid U3 and remove that from all my flash drives.

Well, I brought my 2011 F150 to the dealer once again and they reflashed my sync system. The next day the problem resurfaced

I looked at the fuse box on the front passenger side and noticed the sync fuse was a little loose. I reseated the fuse at the sync system started to work again.

I have brought my truck to the same dealer (Soeren's Ford) 3 times and they still don't know what to do about it. It makes me wonder if they are just milking Ford for warranty work. I will not set foot in that service department ever again.

Sorry for the rant...I feel better now.

Has anyone else had any luck fixing this issue?
