2010 Remote Start Programing ?

Hi all,

I installed the bi-directional ford remote start in my truck yesterday. It was a very easy install as I only had to splice into about 3 wires.

Anyway, When I try to start it It honks 4 times indicating that the tach isn't programed. So I go into the programing but couldn't see the LED light at all.

The pats system programed easy as well. I know this because when I do the system check it shows 5 admin keys instead of 4.

Now I'm sure I've messed something up as instead of the small chirps during the programing it honks long and loud. Now after the first bank when I put my foot on the brake it starts honking non-stop. (At least 13 honks before I turned the car off ) Any idea what I did? Or more importantly how I fix it?

Bryan

So I fixed it. It ended up being a faulty Hood Safety Switch As Soon as I disconnected it . it let me get into the programing menu and adjust the door polarity and key in sense and the hidden bank 7 where you can open the door while it's running.

So long story short it's all up and running.

Thanks.

Do you mind me asking how much this system cost ya? I'm thinking about adding remote start to my 09.

Also, where were the wires located that you had to tap in to?

Thanks.

Hi Bddo,

The system I got was the Ford Bi-Directional (AC3Z-19G364-A) for $229.90 . It required the Pats system interface (8L3Z-19G365-BA) for $33.00)

Total was 262.90 . I got these from www.tascaparts.com . It's a ford Dealer that does discount online sales. He typically sells things for 10% above his cost.

With the Bidirectional Remote start only unit it took about 30 minutes to install. I simply unhooked the ignition harness and plugged it into the Remote start harness provided then plugged the new one into the ignition harness.

I had to tap into the Brake light wire (near the brake pedal) the Horn wire (directly below ignition wires) , The drivers door ajar wire ( Inside the drivers side kick plate) , The parking lights wire ( SJB box on the passengers side ) , dome light (SJB box on the passenger side)

There were a couple programing things I had to do but all and all it was very easy. When I was having the issue with the horn honking I called the 1-800 number on the box for the remote start and they answered my question very quickly and had be running again.

Let me know if there are any more questions I can send you the link to where I got the instructions for the install.

Hi Bryan, thanks for the little write up here. I am looking at doing this to my 2009 as well. Doing it your way, did you have to involve the dealership for any sort of programming, or it was all done from the two parts you got? Also, does it require you having the second key? How does this one work with your key/remote: Does it come with a new remote you program, does the truck shut off when you hit the gas if the key isn't in or if you tried shifting it etc. Also is this one of the cheaper ways of getting the remote start rather than another company or bringing it somewhere?

Nesiop,

This is the factory bi-directional remote start. Some people don't like them because it doesn't have the alarm system or other bells and whistles. The range is okay at about 600-1000 feet, which is plenty for me. I don't need to start my truck from the next state over.

I did not have to have the dealership program anything. As far as the key system , You need to have 2 keys already programed to the truck. Then you simply program the pats system as if it was another key. This prevents you from disabling the pats security system completely . It will only turn on and replicate the chip when you push the remote start button.

The kit comes with one bi-directional remote. This remote only has the remote start button and a panic / car finder button. That's one of the downsides is that it doesn't also control the doors. What I did was purchased an Ford Edge key. The door unlock buttons are incorporated in the key. I attached the remote start Key fob to that so that I didn't have 2 separate fobs.

The system defaults to shut down when the drivers door is opened. With a little very simple programing you can turn this "feature" off so that it doesn't shut down when you open the door. The system will shut off as soon as you apply the brake pedal, which is also needed to get the vehicle out of gear. It will also shut down if it reaches it's 10 or 15 minute timer.

The way my system works now is after remote starting I use the key-less entry to open the doors. Insert my key into the ignition and turn it to run then step on the brake . The car will continue to run and you're good to go.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Bryan

Thank you I appreciate all this information. Now my last question, I am trying to find the cheapest price for the kit, but I notice when I look at the bi-directional kit, there is also some other remote start kits that don't mention bi-directional. I guess my first question is what does this unit have over the others/what does bi-directional mean in this aspect? Two, is this the best option/price/ease of install for just a remote start (since it isn't that alarm).

Nesiop,

The bi-directional means that the remote fob alerts me to when or if the truck started. Basically I push the button it beeps once. then about 15 seconds later I get 2 beeps which tell me it started. If it beeps 3 times it didn't start.

They have one other remote start only kit that doesn't tell you if the vehicle in fact started. I had attempted to install the Remote start / Alarm system several months ago but got fed up with it due to a faulty unit. If you want the alarm system then I'd go with that one as it also replaces your keyless entry fobs. If your looking just for a remote starter then the bidirectional one works great and is easy to install.

As far as install instructions I went to http://www.fordaccessoriesstore.com/GfaWeb/techSpecs.do (click on install instructions , electronics, then remote start)

The pictures I found on another thread on a different forum. I didn't take any pictures or document my install at all. But it was very straight forward while following the written instructions .

One side note. When I was having trouble getting it started I had hooked up the parking light wire wrong and had a defective hood safety switch. Both of these wires were not required to get it running.
