X-plan Policy

This is not a thread on getting a PIN or one of the other items cover ad nauseum. I ordered a truck last month. Since then I discovered I need a SCREW instead of a SCAB. I used an x-plan PIN when I ordered the truck and I placed a deposit down on it. The dealer said I would not lose the deposit as long as I purchase a vehicle through them. So far so good. The part that is confusing the hell out of me, and when I ask about it all I get is a tap dance and redirection, is a transportation fee. The dealer is saying that if I purchase a truck that is at another dealer and is transported to my dealer I will have to pay a transportation fee in addition to the destination and delivery fee. I thought x-plan did not allow for extra fees to be charged by the dealer. Am I incorrect in my understanding of the program?

The x plan is talking about made up fees, inflated fees, etc to recover what they lost on the ecoboost sale. I think that the additional transportation fee is legitimate. Some one has to be paid to go get the vehicle. Usually the dealer will try to do a swap, that way they can drive down in one vehicle and come back in another. Usually the dealerships hire retired folks to go get the vehicles so I wouldn't expect a high fee.
If you think the fee is too high, then go pick it up yourself. Or negotiate on the fee with them.

If you are talking about having the truck brought to your dealership on a car carrier or trailer instead of being driven then the fee could be quite high depending on the distance.

I always thought Ford paid any expenditures back to the dealer for an x-plan sale. The way I understood the program is we were essentially purchasing directly from Ford but had to go through the dealership. I've thought about offering to get the vehicle myself if it is in the local area, but since we aren't at that point yet it's irrelevant. The way I see it, if the fee is too close to the deposit I can always go to the dealership holding the truck and buy it myself. I'll lose the deposit, but save the transport fee.

It is negotiable but there is a cost to the dealer for transferring from another dealer. Down here it is usually 300 local 800 truck freight.

WOW, got my truck from Galvaston to Austin and wasn't charged a fee? I got 700 below X plan as well as minus rebates.

Still not as good as the 10K I see some of the guys get but none the less I feel OK with the deal.

My local dealer attempted to charge me to get my truck from another dealer (60 kms away), they ended up being such a pain in the a$$ about it that I walked away from the deal. Ended up driving an hour and finding a MUCH better deal and a dealer that was alot easier to work with. Bought in April of 09 and got close to $14,000.00 off here in Canada.
