0% plus rebates

Hey guys...great forum! I have been lurking for the last two weeks as I have been lusting after a new F150 and ditching my Titan.

I have a question about financing. I should qualify for 0% but was told there were NO rebates w/it. I saw on TV that going through Ford credit yielded $1000 and there is like $500 in customer cash. The dealership told me that the $1000 was only if I got "traditional" financing...i.e. 5% or some other "regular" rate.

To those of you who got 0% through Ford, what other (if any) rebates did you get and what were they called? I do have X-plan, so that will help. I also recall seeing on here that someone got a $750 coupon/voucher by ordering a brochure through Ford.com. Is this legit?

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.

Sounds like that dealer is trying to hold the rebate for himself. Even on the Ford site, it shows you get 1000 back when you finance through Ford Credit at 0% for 60 mos. Might want to finds another dealer.

This is the only requirements for the 1000.

3 Program #11862:$1,000.00 Ford Credit Bonus cash requires Ford Credit financing. Not all buyers will qualify. Take new retail delivery from dealer stock by 4/4/2011. See dealer for residency restrictions, qualifications and complete details.

I suggest getting all the rebates you can up front, including the $1000 for financing through Ford. They will probably give you a high interest rate, but you can refinance at your local bank after you take possesion. Do the math, 0% won't be worth forgoing the rebates, especially if there is a chance you will pay off early.
The finance guy for Ford will say you can't refi for 3 months, it is a complete lie.

Not sure if that is a complete "lie". What I was told is that to get that $1,000 off I could not refinance for 3 months. If you pay it off earlier than that you have that $1,000 thrown back into your total financed.

As for the $750 off coupon...it was in the brochure I ordered (I heard about it on this forum) and I didn't even need it when I went in to buy my truck as my local dealer was already aware that I had the coupon and had it already in the "deal".

I didn't take the 0% because I'd loose more than I'd gain.

I got $6500 in rebates plus my X-Plan but I did buy a year end 2010 model.

Good luck

I haven't heard anything about refi after 3 months, I just called my bank and told them I wanted to move my loan over. They called Ford got the pay off, and I am going from 4.99 to 2.99 and saving 50.00 a month or 3K over the life of the loan.

Molinoman - You are saying that if you pay the truck off within 3 months the $1000 for financing has to be repaid?
Did you call Ford credit? Try to pay it off and end up with a $1000 extra bill?
You can pay your truck off the day after you finance it and won't have to pay the $1000 back.
Molinoman, please don't state something your salesman told you as a fact unless you have checked on it.

There are two answers to your question and the correct answer depends on the use of Xplan. I was told by my dealer that I could use either Xplan OR $6000 in rebates. We ran the numbers, and the Xplan cost was $50 cheaper than MSRP-rebates.

I bought my 2011 F150 on Feb 28th. Even with Xplan, there was $1500 Customer Retail Cash that I couldn't get if I took the 0% financing.

I was totally planning on taking the 0% APR offer but the (very persuasive) finance guy at Ford talked me into the extended maintenance plan (all oil changes, tire rotations, and any other scheduled maintenance is free for 6 years/60K miles) and the 6yr/60K extended bumper-to-bumper warranty. I decided to take the BB&T offer of 2.64% and use the extra $1500 to (almost) pay for the two Premium plans.

So, yes, there are some rebates that you cannot combine with the 0% APR financing. However, most of the rebates should apply just fine. Edmunds had a nice breakdown of the rebates. Click here and expand the two details sections to read the fine print. Of course, the fine print here doesn't include Xplan purchases. But at least you'll know up front the different kinds of rebates Ford offers.

I have the Xplan and you CAN USE XPLAN AND REBATES. I've done it on all my Ford trucks. Sounds like your dealer screwed you by limiting you to one or the other. X Plan is nice but at most it saved me only $500 because I negoiate pretty good.

XPlan + Rebates

Interesting. I just pulled my Buyer's Order and looked over all the numbers again. I don't see XPlan listed anywhere, but I do see some rebates. The way I negotiated was I told them how much I wanted to spend a month on the loan and didn't budge.

Before I ever walked in the door, I found out the invoice price and ran some loan numbers based on what I expected the trade-in value to be. I already had an idea of how much I wanted my monthly payments to be. I took all that and used 0% APR to see if I could afford the Platinum. It was close, and I had my doubts I was going to be able to afford it.

When it came time to negotiate, I told them how much I wanted the monthly payments to be. Their first offer was WAY off (by over $50 a month). I was there for 6 hours, but in the end, they met my monthly payment target. One accidental bonus is that I hadn't figured in the 3% use tax, title and inspection fee when I calculated my monthly payments. So they matched my monthly payment including all of that.

As for the final numbers, I know they looked at both the XPlan and the rebates and had three different guys look over my trade-in. In the end, I got the truck for Invoice minus $500, minus $2500 in rebates, minus an extra $1500 in rebates because I opted out of the 0% APR. In addition, they gave me $2000 more than my trade-in's kbb trade-in value. Factoring in the extra cash on the trade-in, that was about $10500 off MSRP (or $8500 ignoring the trade-in).

I feel pretty good with that.

Something doesn't sound right. When you tell your dealer that you have x-plan negotiations are supposed to stop. They are not supposed to attempt to get you to buy in any other manner. Nothing can be thrown in with a value over $50. You are supposed to tell them at the beginning. Ford rebates and x-plan go together. I don't know if rebates specific to a particular dealer can be added in, but the ones directly from Ford are definitely included in the deal. So the $2500 and $1500 in rebates should have been figured in the final price. As I have understood the program x-plan is essentially buying directly from Ford, the dealer is only supposed to facilitate the purchase.

How I understand your deal you went in and saved $600-700 over x-plan for your time haggling for 6 hours. That's pretty good, but I'd rather spend my time relaxing on the beach or rolling my eyes at the arguments the wife and kid get into.

How do you know what the Xplan pricing is? The dealer showed me the back of a napkin calculations where he totaled up the final Xplan price and the final MSRP-rebates price. The final XPlan price was $50 cheaper. I have no idea how he got that Xplan number. Maybe he already added any viable rebates.

I went to Edmunds to find the MSRP and Invoice prices. Where does one go to find out the XPlan pricing?? For all I know, he took the MSRP-rebates took off an extra $50 and called it the XPlan price.

The dealer should show you a print out with x-plan pricing. If he put it on a napkin I would be very suspicious. X-plan is: Dealer Invoice - (0.4% * Dealer Invoice) + Administration Fee($100-$275). Look at edmunds to get dealer invoice and an idea fo x-plan price.
You are eligible for all rebates with the x-plan. There are different rebates you can get. One is with 0% financing and almost no rebates. When I bought my truck there was around $5500 rebates, not sure what they are now, but a higher finance rate (around 6%). My earlier point was get the x-plan and all the rebates you can then refi at a reasonable rate through your bank. It is common for the finance dept to tell the customer it's not allowed to refi for 3 months because you will have to give part of the rebate back. That is untrue, a falsehood, inaccurate.

Oddman - The dealer is supposed to show you the invoice and the box marked X-Plan, in which you will see the X-Plan price. All applicable rebates also apply. Napkins are not proper documentation for a deal done on X-Plan. You might want to tell that salesperson to use that napkin where the sun don't shine to wipe up all the BS they are telling you.
