Suspension Rant

So my 2010 f150 5.4 Xlt has 19k miles. I have already had my entire right rear leaf springs replaced under warranty around 15k because they determined that one of them was cracked. It was making an awful clunking noise whenever the truck rocked to the left or right through a turn. I could easily reproduce it on the right side by wobbling the truck back and forth Well the clunking has started again and my dealer isn't going to be able to work me in before the weekend so I have to wait until after spring break to even get it looked at. I'm heading to florida on saturday. If the leaf spring were to be cracked again, would this pose a safety issue for my family and I?

absolutely a safety issue. any broken suspension component is dangerous. everything sits on top of it and the suspension controls it all. this is a very unusual problem you're having, to say the least. something's going on.....

Unfortunately I may be in the same boat, my is drivers side though. I can't see any damage but it clunks like a b@stard on speed bumps and washboard. Never hauled anything heavy and it has never been abused. I thought it was the exhaust banging at first but no such luck.

Well I went out had my girlfriend soak the entire spring in WD40 while rocked the truck back and forth to loosen up the suspension. And it has helped for now. It is now just a quiet "thud" instead of a banging.

Do you believe there was any particular driving event that caused this?

Where did the first one crack? You definitely have some reason that is causing them to break. I would not drive the truck until it gets fixed.

i tow large trucks often that have been put out of service by the DOT due to suspension components being broken including springs. it is a definite safety issue you need to get checked out.

No sir! No off roading or rough driving. No time for that while studying mechanical engineering lol Which makes it that much more strange. Anyway I completed the road trip to Florida. The truck gets to relax for a week and hopefully I will have no problems on the way back. Have an appointment at my dealer monday after next.

Dude, you seriously shouldn't be driving it, especially on a road trip right now. You should find a dealer in FL asap.
