EcoBoost Lariat Screw test drive

While Ford was looking at my truck's HVAC vent issue (said it was normal) I test drove a SuperCrew EB.

I drove it pretty hard! Nice powerband and gobs of upper end power! It does have a small amount of turbo lag on the bottom end, especially noticeable @ takeoff. That can be solved by foot-braking and building up the boost before launching!! Almost got the truck a little sideways until the crazy traction control sshut down the fun!!

When I started it up the avg MPG was 10.4! Salesman said this truck was the one everyone takes for a joy ride! I wasn't the only one lighting the tires up!

Seat-o-pants feel was my 5.4 had a bit more bottom end torque... but once you hit 3000RPM or so that EB flat screams!!

Maybe in a few years.......

Strange, considering the wicked amounts of torque the EB is said to make at low rpm...

I think I'm gonna order my truck - or buy one directly off the trailer. I don't want a truck that's been beat on by every swinging d**k in town...

You felt like your 5.4 had better take off than the EB? Funny, I've had the exact opposite opinion. I love my 2005 5.4, but I've never gotten used to the hesitation at green lights on dry sunny days. The EB, on the other hand, flat out burns rubber when you put the hammer down. Is your 5.4 tuned or stock?

It's stock. I have never experienced some of the hesitation and gear searching that some have. In fact, it is very responsive. Throttle response is dead on. Maybe I have a good one!?

Don't get me wrong..the EB IS a torque monster, just not until about 2500-3000 RPM or so. I though that was odd...looked up specs and that is where the peak torque is. I am referring to "off idle" torque.
I am sure that is due to the boost spooling up.
