Wow, 3.7L must be doing really well

My dealer has about 2/3 of his F150s with this motor. He has Scabs in 2WD and 4WD (STX) with or without tow package. Has Screws in 2WD with or without Tow package. Just 1 regular cab with the 3.7L.

They must be really impressed with the 3.7L output. Even though it has the lowest torque output, out of the 5.0L and 6.2L, it has a flatter torque curve. This in itself will make it feel more powerful, then add that 302 HP, it probably feels like a small V8.

Since I already bought my truck, I don't think it's right wasting my salesman's time while I test drive trucks I have no intention of buying. So I really can't say how it feels but looks pretty impressive.

I test drove a 3.7L STX reg cab on 12/30 before the test drive & purchase of my 5.0 STX SCab. It was quite peppy above 3K but the exhaust note sounded like a Honda Civic to me, almost like the muffler was a tin can.

It is definitely a nice little V6 truck and should do well for many years. My son has a '11 3.7L Stang with the man trans and has received a best of 35 mpg (basic math) with cruise at 70 mph and averages 29 mpg in combined driving. He run's Conoco 87 octane gas and lives in central TX.

I can see 23 - 24 mpg on the highway once the motor is broken in. I had a new '91 Chevy Scottsdale Ext Cab with the 4.3L and 5 spd man trans and received a best of 25 mpg on the freeway back in '92.

I know this is stupid, I know my 4.6L 2V has a lot less power, but I just dont want a n/a V6 in a full size truck. The V8 sound means something to me. Makes no logical sense, but oh well.

I've got the 3.7. It's not a V8. The torque curve makes a difference. The difference is, I'm not as likely to drive this truck like a race car.

It is actually a pretty peppy motor. I'd say that it is more peppy than the 2V 4.6. You do need more rpm's but they build very quickly. Not race car like but... well, I have a criteria for my vehicles. They have to be able to merge on the highway quickly and efficiently. My 3.7 F150 passes the test.

I think that Ford is expecting a lot of people to be ok with this V6 because it has 302hp. I think they are wrong. I still think that more people are going to want the V8. That is untill gas prices start hurting. My 3.7 was getting 20mpg last time I drove it. It's still only got like 600mi. I think that with conservative driving, this motor will net decent fuel economy.

I am looking hard at a 3.7 4x4 standard cab. But I can get a severely discounted 2010 4.6 4x4 for around $22k. Which one should I go for?

Is that the 4.6L 2 valve with 4 speed trans or the 4.6L 3 valve with 6 speed trans??? Is this also a Regular Cab with 4WD???

Is that an Xplan price, if not, how much over invoice??

If it's the 4.6L 3 valve, I'd go with that over the 3.7L. I had the 4.6L 3 Valve in my Sport Trac 4WD and it offered very good torque and power output in this lighter truck. If yours is a Reg cab 4WD, it's likely just as light if not lighter than the heaviest midsize (Sport Trac) out there.

You'll likely get better fuel economy as well. I'd also buy the $350 tow package as you'll get full towing capacity with that 4.6L 3 Valve. The 3.7L has a lower tow rating than many midsize truck based SUVs. It's just a bit above 5000 lbs. The tow package will make a difference in resale. Most people I know that 'use' trucks for what they are, won't buy any without a tow package.

If the truck is a 4.6L 2 Valve, I'd not even consider it. The lower torque and HP output will be even more handicapped with the poorer 4 speed auto trans. In that case, the 3.7L is the much better!

Good luck

Seriously, thats an important question. If it's the 4.6 3v... thats your pick all day. That 3.7 is nice but the the 4.6 on the 6 speed is really sweet.

I like the 3.7, it's great for what it is. I'm just not sure I love what it is.
